I go back to VegasVideo3 and there never has been. And THAT'S one of the major reason why I like Media Manager!

Thanks Grazie...I blew off media manager years ago when I heard so many complaints about it, is it worth it now (in V8)?
Can I just install it from my v8 disk?

EDIT: I just tried to install from disk and got message stating :
I need MS SQL server 2005, then when I select install I get there are known issues with it and it checked for solution but no solution found.
Is there an update for MM somewhere...or could it be because I'm running Windows 7?

Yeah, the .sf* and sk* files can be disturbing in a thumbnail view - I got the "Ultra Explorer", a Windows Explorer alternative, and it has got a filter that can hide all unwanted files.
... and btw it does not show the dumb old-film-like frame that the Windows 7 designers seem to fancy so much.

I installed MM and it seems like a valuable tool but what do I need to do to get it to preview video? If I hit play it has a play arrow in the upper left corner of the thumbnail but doesn't actually play it.
Thanks very much,
Randy

No - using only the Ultra Explorer because it suits my stuff very well - i.e. not showing the Vegas generated .sf and .sk files, not showing the dreaded Windows 7-frames... - and because you also can adjust the thumbnail size:
It is great and very clear to overview the media using 230x138 pixels thumbnails. ...and when the filenames are switched off you really get a lot of large thumbs (more than 60) on a 27 inch screen.
Like in the Windows own explorer a doubleclick plays the clip.

"I installed MM . .. . " - That's Media Manager - yes?

" . . and it seems like a valuable tool . . . " Love it!

" . . but what do I need to do to get it to preview video? " - Make sure you have a moving video you are previewing and NOT a "still" graphic. I've caught myself out with that one!

"If I hit play it has a play arrow in the upper left corner of the thumbnail but doesn't actually play it." - Well it should, unless you've picked on a "still"? MM has an Auto Preview arrow on its Toolbar, make sure that is engaged.

Oh man, how embarrassing, I was expecting it to play in it's own window. I didn't realize it was playing in the preview window all along (I didn't have my audio monitors on at the time so I didn't hear it either)...what a great tool!
Thanks Grazie,
Randy

Hey Ritsmer,
In the filter window, I added .sfl and .sfk and have enabled and filtered out selected. Can you tell me why I'm still seeing the files?
Thanks,
Randy

Lol! - Randy, that's a first here on the Forums . . .

Now there IS an option if you want to Choose a thumbnail that IS more appropriate to the Project than the first frame! Kinda good for an Aide Memoir.

Hover the mouse over the things that you still see - might be some *.sfk1 or *.sfk1 (remember the * ).

My filter list is:
*.sfk
*.sfk1
*.sfk0
*.sfl

Okay I added the * but still get them....any other advice?
Thanks,
Randy

Strange ...???

Well, what I do is right click in the Filter window and then add like "*.sfk".
Then I click the green Enable button - and then all .sfk-thumbnails disappear immediately.
Remember, that the Filter Out/Filter In must be in Filter Out state.

As I understand you have to click the Enable every time you start Ultra Explorer.

I tried to follow this, but got lost. It would help a lot to be able to see thumbnails when importing. What's the simpleton's way of doing it?

Thanks!
