V8 install dotnetfx3.exe doesn't work

Casual user of V5 who strayed in VMS Plat but did the 20% off upgrade to V8 via download as I'd like more video tracks & other items.

Had the install problem with .NET 3.0 as I run xp Pro 64 bit. Researched posts and downloaded the 'dotnetfx3.exe' which seemed to solve problems for others.

But for me, I still get this message for MS Net Framework 3.0 x86:
"only x86 platforms are supported
does not support 64-bit platforms"

Any other suggestions? I'm baffled so thanks.

IIRC, there is a 64 bit version of .net 3.0...............?

There's a separate version for 64 bit systems.
Go to this page on the Microsoft site and download the X64 Redistributable Package (under Instructions, about 1/2 way down the page).

For anyone else, it took it awhile to install in the background for me so I was trying to relaunch it but got the message about only running one at a time. Then, note popped up that it did install.
