V9.0d crashes immediately when rendering

LSHorwitz wrote on 4/12/2010, 8:23 PM
Installed new version today and loaded a recent simple project with a few unmodified .mts clips from a Canon AVCHD camcorder. Tried to merely render the combined clips in the timeline as an AVCHD file, but crashed at "0%" complete, immediately upon starting the render.

Tried it again, this time with a new project, with same results.

I now have a program which cannot do the very basic rendering at all.

Any suggestions (other than removing 9.0d and going back to 9.0c)?

Many thanks,

Larry

Can't repro -- AVCHD from my Sony camera renders fine in 9.0d 64 bit to AVCHD and to mpg -- and everything else I've tried.

Seems like every new upgrade of Vegas causes some folks problems that did not exist in the previous version but NOT for everyone and not something everyone can reproduce on their system.

Just curious, what's your basic system spec? .. I'm running an i5-750 ..

Also can't repro. AVCHD high profile 9-17 Mbps from 2 different cameras renders as usual here in 9.0d 32 bit under Win 7 64 bit.
Render-time seems to be approx. the same.

Thanks to both of you for replies. I uninstalled and reinstalled Vegas 9.0d and the problem has disappeared. Not sure why it did not install properly on the first attempt, nor did it give me any warnings.

Now that it is rendering correctly, the new issue is that my settings are not being kept. If I set up, for example, project properties, and then check the box which says "ALWAYS USE THESE SETTINGS ON NEW PROJECTS", the new settings are not retained on restart, and I am back where I started.

Oh, well......

One step forward, one step backwards.......

Thanks again,

Larry

I have finally installed V9.0d and it appears to be running ok. The 3 prior problems (render crashes, installer failures, not able to save settings) appear to be solved.

My solution method (not sure which of the items below actually solved the problem since I did all of them and then re-installed successfully):

1. Uninstalled Vegas
2. Did a registry cleanup with Amust Registry Cleaner
3. Used msconfig to disable all Startup programs upon reboot
4. Rebooted, now with no startup programs running
5. Disabled firewall, antivirus software (Norton/Symantec)
6. Re-ran installer. Now it ran all the way to completion, no errors.
7. Briefly tested program with both old and new projects.

Glad to see it is now running again and I can get back to work. It only took me about 3 hours of wasted time to install............

Thanks for help.

The part that would have fixed it, would have been the registry cleanup after uninstalling. Likely some corrupt entry related to the renderer in Vegas, most likely corrupted when you upgraded.

I point this out in case you have a similar issue in the future - simply uninstall, clean the registry and reinstall and hopefully it will save you a bit of time.

Thanks for the comment and clarification. I hope the problem will not re-surface, but it's good to know how to restore Vegas 9.0d if I need to.

Thanks again,
