It can pretty much make any task you wish you could do faster, able to be done faster. It has over 400 features on 15 tabs that help automate processess such as making photo montages, auditing your timeline for gaps, overlaps, burried events, changing markers to any other form of markers, adding markers to the beat, adding custom built fx by Vasst, converting to 24p while applying movie looks, batch rendering, converting file type x to file type y, lower thirds, etc., etc., etc.

I would recommend you download the 15 day free trial and give it a go. The help file is most informative.

Once I started using it, I regretted not having downloaded it when It was first available. Basically every function in Ultimate S was added to meet needs voiced in this forum.

JohnnyRoy is making video (I believe like screen capture) tutorials to explain each function of Ultimate S, but in the meantime, you always have the forum and the help file (the helpfile explaines tab by tab). Also, if you hover over each item, it gives a brief tooltip to explain what it does.

Yea, while I was demoing Ultimate S Pro at NAB2008 this year, it occurred to me that I was showing people how to use it one at a time and there had to be a better way. I'm now working on a set of training videos that will be freely downloadable in which I'll cover each tab using "real world" scenarios. I find that doing it this way takes a bit longer to produce, but it enhances the learning experience because hopefully customers can relate to the problems being solved rather than just explain what all the knobs and switches do. I know I learn better once I understand "why" I should use something.

In the mean time, we do have some tutorials on our web site for Ultimate S 3.0 that will get you started:

The main benefit is productivity. Some people call scripts like Ultimate S and Excalibur “plug-ins” but really they are far greater than just a plug-in. They are collections of productivity tools that help automate your workflow and it’s all about having an efficient workflow. If you have Vegas Pro 8.0, they are fully integrated into Vegas as docking windows so they are always available which his a huge productivity boost over using them as scripts in Vegas 5, 6, & 7.

Personally I think VASST should say it like it is:

It really is that good.

Indispensable. I can't think of anything but my very smallest projects that don't benefit from some component of Ultimate S. Photo montages, multi cam edits, any and all voice over work, anything recorded on a lav mic....
And I only use maybe 30% of what it is capable of.

Here is just one deal: put 500 4 x 3 stills on the timeline, select all, open Ultimate S, select track, timeline, crop to 16 x 9, select pan, set duration of still, set event duration, set overlap for fades, select type of fade, select random fade, then hit OK and in one gillionth of a second all the stills are faded together, cropped to 16 x 9 and with random pans. You have to touch some of the stills for up or down with the crop as they are always cropped to the center. There's more.

That's amazing. I use all sorts of sizes of stills and needed a batch process solution to convert their aspect ratios to 16:9. This looks like it. What happens to a still that's already at the ratio (maybe 873x480)?

If I want to make an FCP user absolutely green with envy, Vegas alone won't do it but Ultimate S will.

Laurence, it's funny you mention that. I think this has been posted before, but about 3 years ago DSE was doing an HDV class in Dallas TX to a bunch of camera ops and editors, all different toolsets represented; lots of FCP users too. When he used Ultimate S on a montage of photos and HDV clips set to markers, which were laid down to the beat of a song, you could hear, and I mean very audibly hear the gasps across the room.

I love VASST products, when they screw up a shipment they take care of you but the website is way hard to navigate. I also just got the Noise Reduction DVD. The VASST website showed out of stock but VASST had it available and for sale through Amazon and it shipped very promptly.

JohnnyRoy, I think doing some video tutorials is a great idea, as someone who uses Ultimate S and who sat in on one of your workshops at NAB, it really did a lot to open my eyes to many of the features that I had overlooked. Matter of fact I think if you just did the whole thing ya did at NAB on vid it would be a great asset. Looking forward to it.

It was great as ultimate 2 but now with Vegas 8 and Ultimate Pro you should not live without it. "The best fully integrated Vegas Pro Time saver". A true statement from the Vasst website. Loads of power at a great price. You will not be sorry.
