VASST Contest is on...

>>>The contest mentioned in this thread is not commercial in nature, is Vegas related, and thus the entire thread has not been deleted.<<<

Um - I have no idea what went on here, really I don't. But I just clicked through many posts that are, at this point, nothing more than "deleted by mod" posts. One post in a thread might be ok, perhaps even two - but this many, IMO, just makes it harder to read. So my suggestion is that if you have this many posts that have to have full content removed could you also remove the actual "post" and not only the content? Or at the least change the header/subject to say "content deleted by moderator" or the like?

Thanks!

Filmy do you read the forums threaded or nonthreaded?

This thread is very easy to read nonthreaded. All the personal attacks and responses to the personal attacks were removed. You can just easily scroll down and skip all the deleted material

Thanks KSA. So now we know that notices about contests like the one VASST is having is OK to post on the forum and complaints about that post just to stir up trouble are not. It seems very simple.

Threaded. I can't stand the non-threade view becuase some of these thread get to 100 posts. It is a bit overwhelming to have that much text on screen at one time - with no rhyme or reason.

Does anyone have either the font that Vegas uses or a highquality version of the logo ? Would prefer the font but beggars cant be choosers !

Ray, I think it's a blend of fonts, if I'm not mistaken...Can't get it off the box or splash screen?
MUTTLEY wrote on 3/6/2005, 12:23 PM

I think I mentioned this once but I'm pretty sure Sonic Foundry once had the font available for download way back in the day, was hoping someone might have it. For what I'm doing it would have been better to have the font, but it's all good. Adversity forces creativity.

If anyone happens to still have it please let me know.

Thanks;

Douglas:

Little confused on the contest....Does the voting end on the same day as the cutoff for entries? (what is the cutoff time on the 15th?) If someone submits an entry on the 15th, will there be time for people to vote after it is submitted? Worst case scenario, someone enters on the last day toward the end of the day and the contest ends with no more voting allowed......just curious. I saw we can change our votes but maybe a period of time after all entries are in would be appropriate so all entries receive a fair shake......If this has been discussed and I missed it I apologize.

You're right, as currently coded, voting for and submitting an entry ends at the same time, making the scenario you describe possible. Your point is good. I'll see about adding another parameter to the contests so voting can continue for some period of time after entries stop flowing in.

All cutoffs are midnight (I believe Pacific Time) of the stated dates.

BTW, I just fixed some formatting errors with the current standings graph, so that might be slightly clearer now.

in reality, voting should be prohibited until the entries are posted. Then people will be able to vote on all of them.

I know I entered one already, but I wasn't really expecting them be up yet, I still have AT LEAST one more on the way, anyway - it does lend itself to some problems potentially, but maybe just a declaration stating that voting is possible now, but should probably be held off until closer to the deadline.

I agree with Frigid about voting after entries but its cool.

But it doesnt look like all of the videos available are listed to vote for ?

*bump*

So there are now 13 vids, I voted once but want to change it. In the drop down vote field there are only 11 videos listed ?

I didn't see my entry get posted - I guess it's up for review?

I can say this muc as far as humor and originality goes I think I have a fighting chance anyway!

The current setup doesn't allow voting for your own entry so you won't see those on the ballot. If you're not seeing other people's entries on the ballot, please let me know.

Thanks for your feedback on voting rules. I kind of enjoy being able to update my vote as new entries come in, but it does give possibly unfair momentum to early entries. Are the existing votes a disincentive to entering?

Jason
MUTTLEY wrote on 3/7/2005, 2:25 PM
Just looking at it, it does appear that the ones that were the earliest up have more votes that could possibly be because it got more traffic when it first went up. Also I'm guessing the main people who will be checking back often are those who entered not everyone on this forum or other places that this was posted, meaning that many who vote before all the vids are in might not ever see the rest.

With all that said, I for one can hang. If the prize were a FS4-PRO I'd be more concerned. As it is, its just a fun little contest and not that big a worry. =)

Thanks for putting it on guys.

Jason or DSE:

One more quick question....the VASST site has a deadline of APRIL 15 but Douglas had MARCH 15 in some of his posts. Can you clarify......?

"Contest to end March 15. Visitors to the VASST site will begin voting around that same time, date TBA. Winner's video will also be shown at NAB at the Vegas party. Please plan on submitting a DVD of your entry, just in case you win, so we can use a high resolution copy at the party event.
VASST trainers and Sony employees may not enter."

Thanks,

I agree with Muttley and a few of the others; the enteries that were submitted early (good job guys! Very ambitious!)(wish I were so) have a bit of an unfair advantage. But I also agree with the rest of what they said, for a fun little contest like this, it's all good. I actually have an idea for this one! (though it won't be done for another week or two at this rate.)
Hurrah for Vasst!

Activity seems low as far as new entries ae conserned and revieling the nummber of votes already cast gives a bit of misleading (?) credability to the early entries. Or am I just being a grouch because I'm not getting any votes!?! :-) I also enjoyed many of the entries but would LOVE to win a free version of Ultimate S ............... ssssssssttt

Yea, I think we all have our ego's even when its just for grins and mine has taken a little bruise. With no disrespect to the early entries, I do think that did give a slight advantage. And as garo mentioned, on most online polls I've seen, results arent usually shown untill after someones voted to disuade people being easily influanced by "popular opinion" as they call it.

Muttley, you might want to start a new thread, only because the moderator deletions, coupled with the thread makes it hard to read. Lotsa cool entries so far. We'll also mention the contest in a soon to come mailing.
Jason_Abbott wrote on 3/12/2005, 6:00 PM
If Spot agrees, we can make sure the next contest has an entry period without voting, and a voting period without entries--or close, perhaps some overlap would be okay.

Team VASST has me busy on other stuff you'll soon see, but I did tweak the contest page slightly, adding, among other things, a mouse-over tip to the entries showing their submit date (for contests that aren't anonymous it will also show author). You can judge for yourself how closely submit date correlates to rank.

Thanks for everyone's feedback.

Maybe another idea would be to have a people's choice and editor's choice award. One for the most votes and one for the project the staff likes the best.
