VASST Fastapps do not show

Hi all,

I have a new install of Sony Vegas Pro 12 on my work computer. At home, I had no problem with the VASST apps so I got them for the work install as well. CinemaLooks1, 4, 7 & 12 and TitleStrip 1 & 3. My problem is that after I install them, they don't show in Vegas! I know you need to go to View -> Extensions but it says there "No extensions". I have the newest build of SV12 installed (Build 770), It's the 64bit Version. I first installed the VASST apps under the Program Files x86 dir as that was default but when that didn't work, I installed them under Program Files like Vegas. Didn't work either. I added the directory under Prefernces -> VST Effects... not working either.

NewBlue Titler Pro that came free with it installed fine (though it always crashes on me with a C++ error - but since I don't really use it, no biggy).

Since I paid for the VASST apps though, I would like to get them to work. Any ideas?

No problem here on either VP12 or VP13.

Build 770 is worthless - you need at least 310 or 373

Working here in VP12 Build 770; VP13 310 and 373.

@videoITguy

Build 770 is for Vegas 12 PRO and 310 and 373 are for Vegas 13 PRO ;-)

I have all the FASST apps installed for my 12 PRO and they work fine, they also all work in Movie Studio 12, but only 5 of the 11 show up in Movie Studio 13.
All versions are 64bit. I cannot figure out what is going on. I do not know about 13 PRO as I have not purchased it yet.

Yes, you are correct build 770 of VegasPro 12 was last mature build of that version. SCS turned around a beta build of 770 like 770b for release as VPro13 which in their error - admittedly the programmers lost functionality for some types of plugin calls. Hence my call out on this because you just can't use that version of VegasPro13 for that reason.

There is a bug in VP12 were script icons would not show up in on the toolbar, but they are installed. It is intensely annoying and perhaps this is your problem. you have to do following on menu:

Tools--Scripting--Rescan Script Menu Folder

Ah yes I see your point.

Thanks for all the info. I found out what my problem is. My user account on the work computer has only user rights. I need to run VP12 as Administrator to see the fastapps. Which is a bit of a problem as only IT has administrator rights to the work stations :/

Apparently this is a known issue with the latest Movie Studio 13.0 build and is being researched by the Sony development team. The work around is to uninstall Movie Studio 13 Platinum, and then reinstall from this build:

Let me know if that fixes it for you.

This is easy to fix but let me explain what's going in first:

The problem is that DirectX saves it's presets under the user's account and many of our plug-ins ship DirectX presets so they must be installed by the user that will actually use them. Unfortunately, Microsoft's broken security model doesn't allow users to install applications any more so all of this breaks. On a Mac, when you need elevated privileges, OS X allows the user to act as an administrator but the user retains their identity so files get installed in their personal folders. On a PC when you need elevated privileges, Windows switches to the administrator account which cuts the current user account out of the install and we have no way of know what user we are installing presets and other files for so they get installed under the Administrator's account instead of your account. This Windows behavior is out of our control but the procedure below will work around this Windows limitation.

The solution is simple:

If you want to use them with a non-administrator account, you need to temporarily make the normal user an administrator, then install the software as that user, then run the software once to license it, then make them a regular user again (i.e., remove their administrator rights). Uninstall our plug-ins and re-install them using this procedure and you should be fine.

@JohnnyRoy

Hey John thanks for the tip I tried it and the older build of Movie Studio 13 works, all of the FASST apps show up and are working fine.

I just wish you could customize the toolbar I miss being able to have my own tools like the FASST apps up there. I hope SCS works out something.

But anyway always a BIG thanks for your extreme intelligence and willingness to help out us mere mortals...
