VASST Tour at Sydney

Just wanted to thank Spot for the great training session yesterday in Sydney, it was definately worth flying down from Brisbane for! Spot dazzled the audience with time saving tricks and tips with a host of functions that i didn't even know existed. I've never seen anyone so skillful in both Video and Audio let alone someone do it in the the one app.. that's right Vegas

It was a shame i had to fly back last night, i only saw the first 20 mins of the Roadshow. It was fantastic to see someone put a screen full of composited video tracks together, sneak in a ram preview, then put in sound and then open another vegas to show off surround sound and other features while the first one is playing in the background all whilst answering questions and drinking a coffee simultaneously. All i can say is, you poor laptop.

It was a great turn out for the training today, from my mingling, there were a few premiere users, i wonder how it seemed in their eyes.

Some of the questions asked though were a bit dumb, but then again the questions i asked may have seemed dumb to expert vegas users.

Anyways, thanks spot for coming down the australia, have fun in cosy melbourne!

I flew down from the Gold Coast, and despite it being a VERY long day, it was well worth it.

Biggest eye (ear?) opener for me was the surround sound, and proof that '70% of video is audio'. First thing my wife said when I got home was 'So now you have to buy more things?' I didn't have the front to tell her that sound forge is a must!

Shame there wasn't a bit more time for DVDA, though what I did get out of it was super.

Thanks Spot for coming, it was a very informative day.

One small request: Will you come to Brisbane next time? Please? :)

Thanks, Bowman, wish we could have had the full day. Cutting an hour out was a bit challenging, but overall, it was a very fun day, filled with great people. Sydney holds the record at 75 paid attendees at a VASST class!

Surprised you caught the 'sneak' RAM render. Funny thing was, half an hour after I did it, one guy asked how the HiDef stuff rendered for the preview. Made me chuckle. But, now you know why I extoll RAM renders so much...
It was great being here, great meeting yourself, Farss, and others. What a great group of folks!
Man, I'm wiped. Can't wait to get home for a few days.
And yeah, I'm due for a new laptop. Spacebar and CTRL key are worn out on this one.

Wolfbass, yeah i flew from the gold coast too- 6:10am flight in the morning, i drove down from brisbane and stayed at tweed heads, then returned last night for a flight at 9:10pm. Was a very long day for us, even worse i was feeling a bit crook- but it was super opportunity to attend.

Spot, you must be stuffed, i thought i was hard sitting there watching u work!
The ram render feature will surely be part of my workflow, not sure why i didn't think of it previously, i've been rendering regions to disk to preview quality and motion of a video comp.

Thanks for answering some questions i had asked yesterday and no i wasn't one of those premiere users at the back. :)

oh yeah, i asked a question about where you can change the preference for "extract audio from cd" and i'm still not sure where i can do that because all the preferences areas to change recorded files and temp files are different, also, the audio files seem to be saved to "my documents" which isn't one of the before mentioned folders.

I was also curious as to how many cups of coffee do you think u had yesterday?

SPOT:

Most of the stuff you went through yesterday I have a pretty good handle on, there was a bit of stuff on DVDA that was great, what really got me sitting up and paying full attention was the sound stuff, esp. what you did in Sound Forge, and also the 5.1 Surround.

The parent child stuff is a lot clearer now, but not something I think I'd use all the time. My question:

What book would you recommend based on the above? Assuming I know the basics, but want to get better at the above? i.e. Noise Reduction, Mastering, and also DVDA actions etc.

Just flew back to New Zealand after attending VASST Sydney . . . and I have to second the comments already made.

Having read the fabulous attendee reviews and testimonials from earlier in the tour, I had a reasonable idea of what to expect . . . but what really blew me away was Spot's stamina. At no stage did it look he even look like breaking a sweat . . . a huge effort at the end of such a long road tour.

A special thanks to Spot for that one special tip . . . that really made the trip worthwhile for me.

Thanks again, and hope to see you downunder again next year.

It certainly was a great day and the thing that set it apart from any other training session I've been in was that the trainer's knowledge came from real world experience.
I've done a bit of training myself over the years and I know how demanding it is at the best of times, for SPOT to give such a polished and passionate session despite his gruelling schedule was truly remarkable.
Sitting next to me for the evening session was someone with many years experience in the Australian television industry, his background is mostly in film but for the last few years has been working with FCP. On the strength of SPOTs demonstration last night we now have another Vegas user in Sydney.

I'm hoping that at some time in the not too distant future SPOT will be able to bring his advanced training course to Sydney. From the brief description that SPOT was able to give me this would be an excellent opportunity for all of us to get some in depth hands on experience not only of Vegas but of the entire production process.

Very glad you enjoyed the sessions! New Magic, AOne, VASST, and Sony all came together to bring this 'down unda' and I was thrilled to be a part of it. I hope we're back with the Sound for DV VASST!
