VCD in Vegas 3

Hi,

Not sure if I have the right impression but from what I read on this forum the VCD / MPEG1 capabilities of Vegas are limited.

What is the best software I can use to edit and re-render some MPEG1 files I have?

Alternatively what could I use to edit and re-render to DVD MPEG2.

I'm a bit of a newbie to video as you can probably gather but I tried to render to MPEG1 and it seemed pretty slow.

Thanks

M

edit - vegas is fine , works good .. will rerender the material ..

when you say edit - do you mean only cuts or more than that ?

I do all my editing in Vegas and render as AVI. If you have a lot of space render your movie using the uncompressed template. When this is done , I use TMPGEnc to re-render same to MPEG1(VCD). This encoder is one of the best out there and if I am not wrong, the basic version is free.

Thanks guys - yeah just cuts. I'll try AVI.

I did a search on VCD and came up with some unfavourable comments regarding speed and quality of MPEG1. I'll try again.

rendering to uncompressed avi is kinda a waste of space for vcd, use something like huffyuv or just frame serve it to tmpgenc ..

if it is just cuts - you dont need vegas anyway .. you can use a couple different programs to edit VCDs without re-rendering , including tmpgenc

would be much better quality ..

Ah, edits with no re-render - exactly what I want. But I have the free version of tmpgenc and I didn't see any editing options. Hmm I'll look again.
