Pausing is really easy.

In your preview window...take a still of an image you want to pause then add that image in a track and just "play the image" That will give you the pause

Rewind is almost as easy...you just have to work with the velocity vector and slide it down to the bottom to start to make the image reverse. The VV4 User manual has a blurb in it about reversing the action. It was very helpful.
