Vdieo factory : An advantage over vegas?!

PH125 wrote on 9/26/2003, 3:20 PM
I own vegas, but was recently looking at video factory 3.0 to see what they added in the new version. I almost lost it when I found out that VF exports swf (flash) files now! And vegas doesn't?!!! Vegas is like $400 more than video factory, and it can't even write a flash file. I think this the biggest piece of pure crap that I have ever seen. I'd love an explanation from sony, or if not, an update to add this ability.

I also noticed "Red-eye removal" listed as a feature.

Check out this comparison chart for more:

News to me, how come there is even a version 3 Video Factory? I thought Video Factory was suppose to be phased out and replaced by ScreenBlast?

it was, I'm just used to saying video factory. but it as well as vegas are still made by sony, so there should not be this kind of difference between them, ESPECIALLY when the cheaper one has the advantage.

It is ScreenBlast. There is no VF3.

The last version of Vegas was introduced several months ago. The last version of MovieStudio was released several days ago. These new features have apparently been developed after Vegas 4 was released. This is why Vegas 4 doesn't have them and i find it difficult to fault the developers for not including features they hadn't developed yet! I'm certain they'll be included in Vegas 5.

The same thing happened with Vegas 2 -> 3 and VideoFactory 2. Lots of nifty new features appeared in VF2 that didn't exist in Vegas 2. There was some whining and crying. These features then showed up a few months later in Vegas 3. No more whining and crying.

Personally, i think that SonicFoundry/Sony uses the lower end application to test out some of these features before introducing them in the high end version.

Upon you saying that though, they could release it as a lettered upgrade, like 4d or whatever it is currently at :)

Or release it as 4.5 so they could charge for the additional functions that they spent large amounts of time and resources developing.

I’ve read on this forum that the big disadvantage is that the entire Screenblast suite has licensing that prohibits you from using it professionally. (i.e., to make money!!!) So unlike VideoFactory, you CANNOT use Screenblast MovieStudio to edit a wedding video and sell it. That would be against the license. Crazy but true.

I was about to buy “Screenblast ACID 4.0” when someone pointed out to me that it would restrict me from selling my video with music made in Screenblast. You have to buy “ACID 4.0 Pro” to get the professional licensing terms. Just something to consider. Sony sees things very differently than Sonic Foundry did.

With the non-commercial use in the EULA, I e-mailed Sony about that. The EULA on this web site says nothing about non-commercial use, while the one on screenblast.com does. They have contacted their legal dept to see which one they will use finaly. However, it IS stupis you can "upgrade" from Video Factory or Acid Music to the screenblast equivlent for ~$40, and LOOSE your commercial liscence! :)

Hopefully they will side on the "non commercial" liscence.
