Vegas 10 HDV capture problem (kinda)

TheHappyFriar wrote on 7/8/2011, 8:29 PM
When I capture HDV in Vegas 10 (seems all versions but it happened in C, D & E now, don't remember A or B) the preview windows & audio are all garbled. Similar to a bad tape or dirty heads. There's skipping, pixilization, etc.

However... the file comes out fine & the camera itself shows fine, so it's streaming fine to my computer.

Any ideas how I could fix this? The audio sounds horrible & I end up turning my speakers down during capture.

Hello THF:

I have this too. I started with VMS 9.0 and never saw this. Captures always looked clean on the preview.

Then I upgraded to Pro 10a, 10b, skipped c, and now 10d. I now have the pixels and green bits. I don't use the audio so I always mute that anyway. But the capture always comes out clean on each clip. I assumed it was just the way it was in Pro versus VMS.

I never use Vegas for capture. For HDV I use HDVSplit, which labels each clip according to shooting time and date. Very handy for me.

On a side note, here is SCS Support's December 2010 response to my report about the Vegas Capture grabbing the first few frames of the next scene when capturing:

Our development team is aware of this issue, and is working to correct the problem. In the meantime, to work around the issue, we would also recommend using a separate capture utility, such as HDV Split. We apologize for the inconvenience, and thank you for your cooperation.

HDV Split won't preview audio for me. That is why I'm using Vegas.

Seems to capture OK on my setup. Preview is sharp but I tend to monitor progress via camcorder screen. Source A1E or HC1. Scene detection used but all clips do need to be placed on the timeline and batch trimmed before use. This has been a problem since V8 when I started trialling Vegas.
Cineform capture has the same problem but HDV Split is clean & to date I have not found the need to trim other than for ediiting purposes.
