Vegas 14 crashing with 4K video

Running Windows 10 with current updates.

Have recently had trouble with Vegas crashing when I'm using 4K video files created by a Sony AX100. Project properties are set to 1920x1080, 29.97p. The hangs, crashes, and weirdness (video appearing from other parts of the project) happen when rendering an output file or viewing with an external monitor. If I rerender my 4K pan/cropped video to 2K and use those files instead, the problem goes away.

I'm still using Build 201. Have been reluctant to move to 211 because another forum commenter indicated crashing problems with it, and of course, I'm in the middle of a large video project. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

I recently got an AX100 and certainly had troubles with 4k files  playing smoothly in the preview. I'm now using proxies and the option to let vegas adjust for smooth playback (in the middle of a render or I would look at what it's really called) At any rate I've found the combination to work wonders. I do often run short test renders when I need to see a higher quality image to be certain I'm getting what I want.

I've experienced "video appearing from other parts of the project" a couple of times on versions of Vegas prior to 14. My opportunity cost of recreating the project in each case was lower than trying to diagnose the problem so I can't offer a proper diagnosis or fix. It's disconcerting to see thumbnails in the Media Pool that clearly don't match the video that I knew was in the file. Recently, I've actually looked for an old project that this happened in but I can't remember which one it is because of the workaround.

I think I isolated my particular problem. The video in question is a locked-camera interview. There was an unsightly switchplate on the wall, so I put a negative mask around it and put a pan/crop shifted copy of the same file on the track below to put some blank wall in its place.

With a regular HD file this works fine. With a 4K video file, rendering the video causes weirdness and crashing on Build 211. Just sent a support request to Magix. Maybe this is part of some larger problem? Who knows.

Thanks for listening!
