Vegas 15

JoeAustin wrote on 9/26/2017, 5:17 PM

Just checking out the demo of Vegas 15 Pro. One the one hand, finally, an industry standard dark gray interface! I've asked for this for ages. Great to see. I'm on 13 presently, and was looking forward to faster renders as promised. Now this would easily be enough to pull the trigger on the upgrade. Unfortunately, the results from 13, are exactly the same as what I'm getting from 15. At least on Sony AVC and Window Media. Not sure what to make of this. I'd be curious of others see different results.

These renderers were not changed. Try new Magix AVC

Ironically, my results with the Magix AVC codec, were nearly 2X longer for a 10mpbs file.

What is your GPU? What is your system spec?

As for rendering acceleration, it was discussed here:

i7 4790K, Win10 pro, R9 380, which was expensive at the time, and replaced a relatively expensive Nvidia card, as Vegas didn't support Cuda much as of a couple of versions ago. So, I take it that a switch back to Nvidia would be needed to see this advantage is what I am getting here? What would be the minimum card to make that happen?

ok... same AMD Radeon user here (RX470) - I have similar issue of rendering speed - not yet too much accelerated. I also still finding out the exact Nvidia card minimum requirement.

Probably doesn't make sense to do any Vegas oriented hardware changes right now; wait until the dust settles. We know they are working on AMD oriented enhancements so you could end up chasing up NVIDIA cards and a nice expensive QSV CPU just as they release a build that favours the red team.

It might have been a good idea to have been clearer on the render speed claims, but I have done a few more quick tests, and have discovered something. Altarvic was correct in that the new Magix codecs must be used in order to see a speed benefit. More specifically, you must use a "QSC" designated option in order to see the benefit. Lo and behold, renders are just about 2X faster using the Magix AVC codec in QSC mode! Your CPU must of course support QSC. A list is here.

I happened to discover another area of improvement with 15. I was recently working on a four camera multicam project, and on just about every camera change in multicam mode would cause Vegas 13 to stumble to a lower resolution. The only fix was to render proxies, which was a pain in the butt for a three hour project. Loaded the same project into 15, and no downshift to half res! Woohoo! Looking at GPU usage, it's clearly making use of the R380, so I'll stick with it for now.

May just have to pull the trigger on the upgrade.
