Vegas 18.0.0.527 "Render As" dialog not loading (0x80131501)

Sawtaytoes wrote on 6/14/2022, 12:16 PM

The "Render As" dialog is not showing in Vegas 18.0.0.527 from a fresh install.

Instead, I'm getting this error:

An error occurred while creating the media file .
Error 0x80131501 (message missing)

There are some other folks who've gotten this issue, but their threads never had a final response.

I'm on Windows 10 64-bit, and I didn't have Vegas installed prior to trying. I installed Vegas 18 for the first time on this system, I registered. I dragged in a video clip, went to "Render As", and it threw up that error.

My hardware:

  • AMD Ryzen 5950X
  • 64GB RAM
  • nVIDIA RTX 3090
  • nVIDIA GTX 970

The batch-scripting workaround won't work for me as my videos are 21:9. I don't have a way to render it properly with Vegas unless I add a new Render mode using the Render As dialog.

I tried installing the latest 527 as well as the older 434 version. What could be causing this issue?

Is there a reason Vegas might have this issue on a fresh install? Some nVIDIA driver? Something I can change? I don't have other machines I could use to fix this. Last time I used Vegas, I didn't have these issues, but I was running it on a completely different set of hardware at the time.

Do you have enough HDD space for the render? You can check drivers by using the driver update utility in the help menu, it will download the best driver for VEGAS.

I'll check if it works again with the latest nVIDIA drivers.

I have many terabytes of available space.

Reading online, it sounds like the DLL is corrupt or something, but this is the same one that gets downloaded from the Internet installer. None of the older versions of 18 I have work either though, so I'm not sure what's actually going on here.

It even happens when I create a fresh project and try it there.

Tested the same installation on another machine and that one worked fine. Not sure what's going on here. I paid for multiple versions of Vegas over the years. I'd like the latest purchase of 18 to still work.

Same problem here.. its a weird one that just randomly happened to me today i was able to render a video 2 days back. i made the video go live today on my Patreon today.

when i click file -> render as this image appears https://imgur.com/a/84S3LpG

-windows 10
-vegas 18.0 (build 527)
-intel core i7-7700
-24 gb's RAM
-nVIDIA GTX 1660
-1 tb's of free space

the clip i am trying to render was recorded by nVIDIA shadowplay 1080 60 fps

I've been able to render videos for months with these settings no problems at all gameplay stuff and so on for a youtube channel

I've tried the following so far

my first thought was to reboot vegas 18...no use
then launch it as admin...no use
then log out and back in......no use
then restart the pc ...no use
held ctrl+shift while clicking the shortcut to do a factory reset...no use
then uninstall and reinstall ...no use

I looked around quite a bit on the forums and im roughly the same boat as the OP. alot of people talk about it but a solid solution doesn't seem to be easily seen.

https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/render-as-is-popping-up-a-erro-0x80131501--130217/#ca809971

noticed a few videos floating around showing how to bypass or workaround with tools-> scripting-> batch rendering.
that works, but isn't acceptable for the videos i want to render.

I did see this post
https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/win-7-rendering-issue-with-the-magix-vegas-482-version--128221/#ca797226

which explained copying an older RenderAsDialog.dll seems to fix it for some

is there anyway for me to obtain an older version of RenderAsDialog.dll or some other way of getting this working again?

I don't mean to sound desperate or anything but I make gameplay videos for a crowd once a week, twice a month supporters request videos and i gotta get this working in time for the weekend.

Ah, I remember this bug... Set dynamic RAM preview to 0 to get around it. They fixed it in VEGAS 19 by rebuilding the dynamic RAM preview system, and updating it along the way to be easier to use.

Thanks for the speedy response, alas im afraid that doesn't help

I learned about setting the dynamic RAM preview to 0 in the past to prevent random crashes

the factory reset did set it back to a default amount,
i set it back to zero rebooted the program and then my computer to no effect both cases running in admin mode.

Hand wrote on 8/4/2022, 4:05 PM

an update.

wiped vegas 18 pro off my pc
I created a new user account BOB,
installed it onto the BOBs desktop not the default location. (when i installed it to the default location the same error appeared)

loaded in an image and hit render. render options now appear. HOWEVER I can't consider this fixed or working as its quite a very long workaround that isn't easy or convenient to use. i don't want to edit a video then log into another account just to render a video..

going back to my main account the error persists there. same error. 0x80131501

One thing i have noticed. my custom render settings aren't showing on BOB's render list.
this could be something.

its a long shot. but how can i clear off my custom render settings?
I'm kind of feeling like the custom video render settings I have on my main account are somehow causing this bug.. are they stored somewhere that uninstalling it doesn't clear off? somewhere in my computers registry?

I made a few custom render types, one for 720 p with a very low framerate for slideshows, one for 1080 p 60 fp a maximum bitrate and i really don't know how but something i giving me a feeling that this might be the cause of this bug.

Your custom templates are saved here:

thanks alas... still no luck.

I used an uninstaller program to remove vegas 18 plus any registry keys. a completely clean slate. but the issue still persists.

i started to suspect i might of deleted some software off my pc that might of caused this so i dug into Event Viewer followed a guide on how to filter out just the recently uninstalled programs and sorted it by date 2 days back when i uninstalled some vr games and software

Kinect for Windows Runtime and Sensorium Vr software and games.

got them installed in smallest of chances that one of them might of somehow caused this issue and rebooted.

still that same error code 0x80131501
https://imgur.com/a/1Q3Nw9g

I'm dissatisfied at how this error just happens one day and nothing Tried have fixed it. along with many other people having a similar error and the only fix i've seen to date is to use downgraded software to fix modern up to date software.

its silly that its come to this point, but im going to get the upgrade to 19
if that doesn't work im gonna be very disappointed since i've been using vegas for near 6 years only for a bug like this to really hammer on the brakes.

if anything i'd like to find a solid reason why this bug happened and how to fix it so i could leave the solution here if anyone else comes across it.

Hey there. Same problem here with Vegas Pro 18 as obtained via a Humble Bundle deal.

On one machine (no.1) it works fine.

Nothing described here worked to get the other (no.2) to open a render dialogue (including creating a new profile) until I obtained an archived copy of the Vegas 17 demo installer, installed but never opened it, and copied its renderdialogue.dll to the Vegas 18 folder (backed up the original first). (Then removed 17.)

The render dialogue now opens.

@Hand, please use the "upload file" button to upload images direct to your post instead of redirecting to another website to show the images. I haven't seen your error message because it's not in the post here and I don't want to go to an external website...
