Vegas 18 Pro doesn't start anymore: Stops at "Creating Windows"

I'm very new to video editing. I have only sparsly used my Vegas 18 Pro. Today I saw a setting or options that indicated some sort of guided video editting (some sort of wizzard I suppose - I can't look the precise name up anymore as Vegas doesn't start). I clicked it and try to make heads or tails out of it, cancelled the whole thing and found myself back to a different view than what I was used to. So I decided to restart the software in hopes that it would restore the default view. Since I turned off Vegas then I cannot get it to restart.

When I try to start the programm it will show the loading screen, which will move up until it says "Creating Windows" - then it makes the whole screen flash white repeatedly and then the program terminates without any message. There is no task for Vegas in the Task-Manager.

I have tried:

- reinstalling Vegas 18 Pro

- uninstalling Vegas 18 Pro, deleting all Vegas Folder that I can find by hand and reinstalling again (Build 527)

- running as Administrator

- updating my graphics driver

I feel like it cannot be connected to my hardware or other software setup as I did not change anything at all from the software running just fine to it being broken. Not even a restart between these two stages.

However I am running it on a Windows 11:

CPU: Ryzen 7 3700X

GPU: Radeon RX Vega (not sure which one)

I have tried googling and even resorted to searching on youtube, but no luck.

Thanks in advance for your help!

I did try that before, I forgot to mention it: I tried it on the executable in the installation folder and it didn't work. Now i've created a shortcut to this .exe onto the desktop and tried it there and it did work now! Vegas is starting again! Thank you so much, sorry that it ended up being such a trivial sollution.

For completeness sake in case someone looks this up later: I've also tried to copy the d3d9.dll into the installation folder and it did not work for me.

I'm glad it's sorted for you, and there's no need to be sorry. Here's a few points to note:-
If the software isn't doing what it should, but it has worked OK before, it's always worthwhile carrying out a full reset. It can usually (but not always) cure many problems. As you've found, it only works using the desktop shortcut, and only if you check the 'clear cache' checkbox.

Uninstalling and re-installing doesn't necessarily fix a problem. If the problem stems from a corrupt cache, only a full reset will fix it.

Unless you know what you're doing, it's not advisable to move files around in the system folders. This could compound the issue.

Happy editing and a happy Christmas.
