Vegas 18 Pro Not Great With H265 8bit - Will 20 Be Better? *EDITED*

*EDITED as I stupidly said I had 19 and I meant 18 - Long day!*

Hey folks,

Ive got 18 Pro at the moment and it "works" for the most part so I havent upgraded.

However Ive just got a Nikon Z9 and it wont record in H264 in anything other than 1080p and I want to use it for 4K and 8K (so I can pan and zoom etc).

Vegas Pro 18 really doesnt like the H265 files at 4K and I have an OK rig :

AMD 3950x 16 Core 32 Thread
32GB RAM
1TB SSD
2070 Super 8GB Video

Would upgrading to Vegas Pro 20 magically make things run better? Has the past couple of years seen a more fluid experience with 265 ?

Thanks in advance :)

Rikki

Did you already tried to uncheck the legacy HEVC decoding in Options/Preferences/File I/O?

Suggest you download the 30 day trial of VP20 and you can find out for yourself on your system. The experience of others on different systems may vary to you.

The decoders, especially for HEVC are a work in progress and have made strides since 18. You might see if it works better for you today or wait a bit and test it after another update or two to 20 comes out.

Thanks folks - for the upgrade price of £99 I just went for it and am keeping v18 on my system too.

I will have a proper play around later today and see how things go :)

Thanks everyone for your expert help as always :D
