Vegas 19 Item not found- any other fixes?

I'm getting this error from a file I worked on 2 nights ago. I saved multiple times, tried to open it a day later and nothing's working.

I've tried:

1. Opening the bak file

2. Renaming the bak file to a .veg (I know it was converted to a veg for sure, getting the same error tho)

3. Looking in the appdata vegas folder for autosaves- but the most recent one is hours before my last save.

4. Looking through every other VEGAS folder I could find.

I'm certain I saved, multiple times and before I closed the project (I constantly ctrl+s), and I have no idea what happened. Vegas just stopped doing autosaves? The original file and bak are timestamped at when I finished working on the project, and the last (and only) autosave are 2 hrs before that, so it must have been corrupted at some point. What can I do to fix this file?

I'll preventatively do "save as" and turn on advanced save in the future, just really need this file back :( Everything was fine when I saved and closed last time. Help!

You should never save multiple times by using the Ctrl+S. You should do incremental saves. Do a "Save As". That way, if the project save gets corrupt, you have a previous one to fall back on. Saving over the same file is like putting all your eggs in one basket. You might not trip and fall, but if it happens...

I do incremental saving when I've made enough changes where I don't want to have to replicate it. I'll have lots of incremental saves. Then when I have finished, I delete all but the final save. And then save it again under a different name as a backup.

I can't answer how to get back your project. You've done what I would have done, change the name of the .bak file. I do not know where the "advanced save" is located. Someone with a bigger Vegas brain than mine (and that is most Vegas users) will have to chime in to help.

Oh! See? And example of someone with a bigger Vegas brain than mine! Thanks! I've never even thought about it. I guess I am too "old school" and depend on "me" to do things.

I think I'll set it up and still continue to do my incremental saves.
