Vegas 19 - Slow selecting in big projects

Alex-Pitel wrote on 9/24/2021, 6:59 AM

Hello! I have a problem with UI speed in Vegas 19. When I'm working with video events - it's ok, but when I"m trying to do something with audio events - Vegas become very slow. I select audio event and it is become selected after second or second and half. And so on with any audio events. But with video events selecting almost immidiatly. It happen on all of my PCs even if every media is offline. I don't have such problems in Vegas 17!

It's not just with you. I also experience exactly the same problem with both Vegas Pro 18 and 19. The longer the project on the timeline is, the worse the audio delay problem becomes. And I haven't found that's related to any particular audio format - it happens across the board and applies to camera original audio, .mp3 and .wav even if the .wav has come from Sound Forge Pro, SpectraLayers Pro or RX Adv. It didn't happen in Vegas Pro 17 and earlier. It is so annoying and, sadly, I don't know of a solution.

The problem existed in Vegas Pro 18 with 2 different computers, each with different audio interfaces (Creative and now Realtek) so the audio interfaces wouldn't seem to be the problem.

I have the same problem with VP19. A project started with VP15 and continued with VP18 is unusable with VP19. Only the audio events are affected, regardless of their source. Whether audio attached to the video, audio recorded separately, or commercial music: all lag when clicked until they are selected, from 4 to 6 seconds. I reported this issue here last month, but it's apparently not common. Clicking on a video event is instantaneously selected; only audio is very lagged. I've VP18 installed on the same laptop as VP19, and VP18 works fine.

I had a similar issue. To fix that transcode all your audio tracks to WAV instead of MP3 (or vice versa I don't remember) and relink back on export.

I encountered this issue when I added a lot of songs from Artlist into the project to find the best fit. The more songs I added, the slower Vegas started to behave.

Using only WAV's (if I remember correctly) in my project solved this problem.

I believe this is because of the compression and decoding of files.

It lags the same with wav or mp3 when using VP19 and a large project. VP18 on the same laptop, same project, all audio works fine. Also, the problem only occurs in a big project with many audio events. When I test VP19 with short projects, there's no lag.

We believe we have isolated the problem with this and hope to have a fix available in a future update.

Was this fixed in 381? Because I have this exact problem in 381 yet had not noticed it in previous versions. (ie selecting a video event is instant but selecting an audio event takes 2-3 seconds)

I have just completed a project started in 341, updated to 361, back to 341, edited and rendered and all ok. So then I updated to 381 an became aware of this. I rolled back to 341 and it's still the same. I'm amazed I hadnt noticed it before!

I copied and pasted the project into VP18 and it was fine.

This was not fixed in build 381...it was not fixed in time for that update. It is our hope that it will be remedied in the next update. We do not have a date for release of the next update yet, but we are beginning to have it it tested right now.

On an UTTERLY IRRELEVANT note:

I just got inspired to revert back to this color scheme and I'm loving it.

Vegas hit their UI apex with VP18, IMO. I had hoped this update would include an option to roll-back to VP18's interface, but haven't found it yet. The icons, and color choices (grey background and light grey text for example) are visually challenging for me, so much so that I'm sticking to VP18. Perhaps not a 'modern UI,' VP18's UI is very functional. VP19 UI's shortcomings can be overcome by memorizing shortcuts, but that's a curious choice if the goal is to attract new users. Folks with better eyesight than mine will have different opinions.
