Vegas 2.0b Restart issue

Vegas20 wrote on 3/6/2001, 3:20 PM
I just installed 2.0b on my machine and everytime I quit
the application my PC automatically reboots. Has anyone
else experienced this problem and is aware of a fix. 2.0b
is the latest version of Vegas, I am running Win98se, I
have a delta midiman 66 with the latest drivers, and a
geforce 2 card with the latest drivers. Anyone out there
have any ideas?

I get this kind of behavior a lot
Many times when using vegas in sync with MTC this happens,
and sometimes certain plug ins will cause it to happen...

You will probably find things that make it happen more
often than not, and learn to avoid those things. Such is
life on a PC I guess. I always have unexplainable
bugginess, but I see it across the software. Vegas may
crash more on me than most apps, but thats probably cuz I
use Vegas the most...

Aaron,

Did you get the new drivers from Dirk? After that little
spate of flakiness when first upgrading to Mixtreme's 1.3,
this machine has not had a bobble.

I got the new drivers. They stopped some crashes that had
been happening only recently. The crashes I was talking
about have been pretty consistent since vegas 1.0. I would
guess they are related to me always having at least two
different types of soundcards in the PC. From an ADB
Aardvark combo, to a Gina Aardvark combo, to the mixtreme
gina combo. Could be plugins, could be hardware, who knows.
This is a sad industry, many of the hardware and software
thats supposed to be compatiable with each other is just as
likely as not to crash your system. It would be neat if
someone liscensed a " Fully Compatiable tm " badge to
products that showed that they did in fact follow all the
guidelines for whatever spec they were aiming at.
Look at all the trouble made by the VIA chipsets for
example, they just plain IGNORED some of the required specs
in the Buss Clocking issue and look at that mess.

Agreed ... given the vast array of hardware, and the
varying quality of same, that Windows and Windows
applications must run on, it is a wonder that it works at
all.
