Vegas 20 crashed without any bak file saved.

Today Vegas 20 crashed for the first time after editing a video for a couple of hours. I thought, no problem, its autosaving backup files. Autosave option is checked. But I looked in my .veg project directory, and the last .bak file was created yesterday. All todays' work is lost. Ive been using Vegas 20 for a couple of months, this is the first time it has crashed, so I wasnt too wary about backups and clicking SAVE once in a while. Whats up with autosave? and why no option to specify how often it saves?

Look in your temporary files folder for backups, not the project files folder.

Jimigune wrote on 5/24/2023, 4:29 PM

Ok. Well, indeed they should be in my temp folder. I didnt know about advanced backup options, so autosave should be saving backups to temp files folder. Under temp/magix/ups, i do see several temp files that were created today. But they are .log files. What am I looking for? .veg.bak?What I have found so far is .log text files.

@Jimigune Hi, did you look in C:\Users\name\AppData\Local\VEGAS Pro\20.0

Jimigune wrote on 5/24/2023, 5:32 PM

Yes, found the autosave.veg there! Thanks....saved me from a BUNCH of work!

@Jimigune 👍 Bet that was a relief 😁

@Jimigune, VegaSaur will also do this. I am running Vegas Pro 17 (which does NOT have this auto backup feature). I quit trusting Vegas YEARS ago not to crash. It's like eating refried beans and expecting not to fart. Spoiler alert, you WILL fart.

You can find VegaSaur here: https://vegasaur.com/Vegasaur

They offer a free trial. Besides the autobackup feature, it's FULL of other tools one can use to make Vegas Pro life a little more tolerable.

Install Excalibur and the free AutoSave plugin will also be installed.

Not that I have VP16 but here Dr ZEN shows how to set it

I think it was enhanced in that version.

How does this in any way help the OP who asked a question about Vegas Pro 20? - other than apparently giving you an opportunity to sledge Vegas Pro with your following comments. The OP has already commented that the autosave files have been found. The Advanced Saved Utility works just fine in VP20 and you can choose the folder where the saves are saved to as well as how frequently

Yes, Vegasaur can do this, but Vegas Pro 20 can do it very well natively,
