Vegas 20 Installation Issues On New Computer

Joel_AUS wrote on 12/5/2022, 10:36 PM

I got a licence for

VEGAS Edit 20
Video editing for creators
(RESMID023820)

It worked fine on my old laptop (i7-7700hq Nvidia 1060), but won't work on my new laptop (Ryzen 7 6800h, Nvidia 3060). I was able to activate it with my serial number, but when I clicked on the program, nothing happened. After a reset it worked, but then it nothing happened when trying to open the program the next time (from the task bar, start menu or .veg files).

I tried uninstalling Vegas 20 but it didn't fully uninstall. The tried reinstalling it but problems persisted. A warning came up to remove the program from my computer when I was trying to install it again. Here are some of the visuals I'm getting:

No idea when to do! Any help appreciated thanks.

I hope that the method used to uninstall VP20 was via Apps & features (Windows 10) or via Installed Apps (W11). Unless other easier solutions are offered, you may have to manually uninstall all the remnants of VP20 via the process given in https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-how-can-i-do-a-clean-uninstall-of-vegas-pro--111205/ . Please note that this means editing the registry which needs a lot of care because there's no Undo (Ctrl-Z) in the registry - but backups of folders can be exported just in case.

You'll probably find that where registry names have 'Sony Creative Software' included, the folder names for VP20 will instead be 'VEGAS Creative Software'.

But to get back to the original problem (VP20 not opening), the solution is likely a whole lot easier than uninstallinfg/re-installing. There does seem to be a problem for some - including myself - where VP20 won't open all the time. The solution is to open the Task Manager (Ctrl+Alt+Del) and under the Background Processes listing, find any Vegas Pro entry and click on End Task for each of those VP entries. VP20 should then open.

Big thanks for all this help! Even thought your answer was quick (cheers for that), I have to admit I had just jumped the gun and did a clean reinstall of Windows. I think it may have been my own fault for doing other things while Vegas was installing for the first time on my new computer. Nevertheless, it is very good to have all this information. Thanks again.
