Vegas 22 Bezier Masking Crashes Vegas

hurricane1951 wrote on 7/26/2025, 6:59 AM

I'm using Vegas Pro 22. I have what seems to be to be a simple need for a Bezier mask. In my video some text fades in then fades out over a period of about 5 seconds. The text is against a pure black background. I want a mask to block the text that begins and ends synchronized to the text. From what I can tell, a Bezier mask is the way to do this.

Apparently the Bezier masking tool was changed in Vegas 21, so the online documentation does not match. Regardless, I created the mask, then click Motion Tracking and I see a blank field for mask. If I click Add Region, Vegas 22 (and 21) immediately crashes hard. If that's not the proper way to proceed, I don't know how to do it, with no Help in the app and the online help out of date.

Can anyone enlighten me?

@hurricane1951 I'm not sure from your description what you want to do with the mask. Do you simply want to move the mask along the text, revealing one letter at a time? Why not just keyframe the movement if there's nothing to track? Aside from that, I've just tried adding a region in the Motion Tracking UI and don't get a crash.
Can you explain in more detail what you're trying to do.

Forget my refernce to "text" It's just a title that can be treated as an image. It fades in for about about 5 seconds, then fades out. All I want to do is prevent it from appearing. The mask does that perfectly, but I need the mask to appear and disappear only for the short time the image appears.

As far as adding a mask, both Vegas 21 and 22 crash as soon as I click the icon to add a region.

If you just want to make the mask fade in then fade out, why not animate the mask's Opacity property?

I only need the mask to appear at time 0:15 and disappear at 0:22. Otherwise it will mask out other stuff.

Tick the Invert check box under General Options then animate the Opacity parameter. With that checkbox checked and the opacity at zero the mask is invisible. Animate the Opacity so that it fades in at 0:15 (opacity at 1) and fades back out again (opacity at 0) at 0:22. Does that do what you want?

You can also animate the Blend parameter to achieve the same result.

I don't see a setting for Opacity anywhere in the Window. See upload image.
