Vegas 22 can't be maximized after minimizing?

marcel-vossen wrote on 11/11/2024, 9:28 AM

Hi there,

Did anybody ever experience this? It's happened many times now, that I'm working in Vegas 22, and go to another window , for example browsers or Photoshop, and when I want to return back to work in Vegas 22, it doesn't open when I click the icon in the taskbar, but instead I hear one of these 'error pings' ?

When I hover the icon, I can see vegas 22 is still there and has not crashed, but I just have to close it and take my loss...

That makes it seem like there is some modal dialog that might be open. After clicking on the VEGAS icon in the task bar...after the ping, press the ESC key and see if that resolves the problem.

No extra windows opened...I even closed all the other programs first, but still couldn't open it. I do think it starts when I have 2 projects in Vegas 22 opened at the same time and close 1 of them?

@marcel-vossen, I have a similar symptom as you describe. The difference between yours and mine, VEGAS is still alive and maximizes normally once I click the VEGAS icon one more time in the task bar after hearing the "ping" sound. This symptom has never happened to me before in any version of VEGAS Pro.

I reported this a few weeks ago and I thought I was alone. I'm 'happy' to see it's not just me. https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/cannot-restore-vegas-window-after-minimising--147490/#ca928978

Have you tried double clicking the icon. I just discovered this morning that this works. It's bizarre, because unless you use a taskbar utility (which I don't) this should not be possible. Plus, it ONLY happens with Vegas. Every other app restores as normal with a single click. Very weird. I'd be interested to learn if double clicking works for you.

If VEGAS Pro 22 has been minimized a while, I've noticed that when I click the icon on the tool bar I get a beep. If I pause for a second and then click it a second time, it will restore.

I come from the year 2025. This bug is still present in Vegas Pro 22, Build 248 running on the most recent version of Windows 10. (The behavior is exactly as described by the OP.)

It's at the point where if I make the mistake of minimizing V22, I then need to close the program, save when prompted, and re-launch it.

Does selecting "Close media files when not the active application" in Preferences makes a difference to any of you with this issue?

You're one of the lucky ones I guess, for me there is no way to restore a session once it starts having this obvious bug... I even lost some work at times because of this mess, this is the only program that does this, it's ridiculous they won't fix it in newer builds...

I cannot reproduce your issue, everything is working as expected when I return to Vegas. What do you mean by

@marcel-vossen

I don't think it has anything to do with "luck". If one person has an issue, and the other does not, what can be done?

You have not given any information on the particular build of Vegas you are using.

This is the fourth time I've minimized and restored Vegas and have been able to go back to editing.

It doesn't happen every time, so I guess it's hard to reproduce, I agree.

I tried minimizing my ONLY project that I have open just now as a test, and I couldn't maximize it anymore, when you click the icon in the taskbar, you hear the 'ping' noise in windows 10 that means 'computer says no' ....

However, today is the first time I managed to ONCE open it by double clicking a few times on the icon, but when I tried minimizing again, I can doubleclick 10 times , it won't come back, I had to just click right, close Vegas and start over.

It's simply very weird.

Yes, I agree it is weird, but I've been on Win11 Pro for several years now and this is never an issue.

What are you going to do when there is no longer support for Win10? The main reason for me going Win11 was it is "supposed" to be better with handling multicore CPU's.

Reyfox wrote on 5/6/2025, 9:06 AM

@marcel-vossen I have a dual boot computer, WIn11 Pro and Win10 Pro. I made sure that Win10 was fully up to date, along with my GPU drivers.

Loaded a VP22 B248 project to full screen Vegas. Minimized and maximized several times, no issues. I then made Vegas a little smaller on screen. Minimized, went to Firefox to do some emails and Youtube, restored, no problem. I did this several times.

So for me, in both Win11 and Win10, there are no issues.

Thats a very interesting question indeed, I also already have a dual boot, but haven't used the win11 partition yet, still peddling on in win10 because I have all my stuff there...

What's your experience, does win11 perform better on your hardware with Vegas or slower?

I didn;t get a good feeling about win11 to be honest after I installed it, it seemed quite slow with everything....

I have an AMD Ryzen 5 5600X 6-Core Processor  3.70 GHz with a Radeon 480 GPU

@marcel-vossen win11 is quite mature now, in fact talking about Windows 11 as a single release is a bit weird as there are many versions released over the years which in their own right could be considered Windows 12, 13, 14 etc... But that is not the way Microsoft is calling it. Do not be afraid to switch to windows 11, it may need more memory, but runs under newer CPU's faster and more efficient.

The resource allocation algorithm is updated to prioritize foreground apps.

If your PC has less RAM and CPU power, then Windows 11 will definitely offer better performance as it focuses on the foreground apps and has fewer background processes consuming limited resources.

Another thing to consider is test and development. On which platform are new applications (such as Vegas) after the developers hand over their work to the test department, are being tested and developed before releasing to the public you think? I Doubt those professionals and the corporate world are still sticking to windows 10 although there are still more Windows 10 then windows 11 machines in the wild. But that is partly because half of the machines in the wild are not allowed to upgrade to windows 11 due to ridiculous hardware restrictions by Microsoft (like TPM 2.0).

Thanks!

I guess I will have to pul the trigger soon anyway because they will stop supporting win10. ;)

I have 32Gb of RAM, should be enough?

Reyfox wrote on 5/7/2025, 9:12 AM

32GB of RAM should be enough. I don't edit long projects, but do use effects (usually Boris FX) .

Do a clean installation of Win11, not an update of Win10. That is what I did. So I have both my Win10 and Win11 drives. I was able to migrate the software I use to Win11 easily.
