Vegas 3.0 Rendering Woes

Hello --
Hope this post finds everyone well.
I wonder if someone might be able to help me.

I'm trying to render a project to the .wmv format in Vegas 3.0. The project is a little over four minutes (one video track and three audio tracks). Whenever I try to render it, I receive the following message...

"An error occurred while creating the media file
Error 0xc00d0bc2 (message missing)"

Any idea what this means and how I can solve it? I was able to
render the project to MPEG-2 but I really want the higher quality
of .WMV.

Do I need to pre-render the project first? If so, how do I do that?
I've tried to find solutions in my manual and online but so far,
no luck.

Any help anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you very much for your time, consideration and help.

Appreciatively yours,

C.M.

i'm betting odds are it's the wmv codec. maybe you have a newer version of media player & it messed up the codec that vegas 3 uses (7, isn't it?)

you can get a free wmv encoder from microsoft's website. i've read that's better (but I prefer vegas as it's one less render).

Hi The Happy Friar --
Thank you very much for your reply.
That makes sense. So I guess my best bet would be to
uninstall the latest version of WMV Player and re-install
7, or whichever one it is, huh?

Thank you again for your time, consideration and help.

I really appreciate it.

i honestly don't know if you can do that. :)

Microsoft has a codec pack somewhere on their site that, I believe, contains the old codec's. It must be the codec used in vegas 7 as my dad, who uses vegas 4, can render just fine with WMV 8.

Another thing to look at is this: http://www.debugmode.com/frameserver/

it's a frameserver render option for vegas 3/4/5/6. Basically, when rendering you choose to render to that. Then open that file that's rendering up in another program (like MS's WMV encoder). Then you don't have to waste time rendering to a separate file & have the advantages of the MS WMV encoder.

As your project is only a few minutes long perhaps the simplest approach would be to render to uncompressed, much bigger file but should be manageble for a 4 minute project. Advantage here is you render once while you fiddle around with the encoding part.

Then download a copy of the free Windows Media Encoder from M$.
Yes it takes a little getting used to but gives you way more options and once you get how it works I find it generally easier to use than how Vegas interfaces to the WMV codec.
