Vegas 3.0a is a bug-fix release. Many of the fixed bugs were first reported on this forum, so thanks for the feedback, and keep it coming!

Changes/fixes in this update include:

Vegas can now burn PAL VideoCDs.

Vegas now supports USB or IEEE-1394 (FireWire) CD recorders when using Windows 2000 or Windows XP.

An error that caused the last two frames of Windows Media files to be truncated has been fixed.

Fixed variable bit rate, constant bit rate, progressive-scan, and color level accuracy bugs in MPEG-2 plug-in.

A bug that caused MPEG-1 files containing black frames to crash the Media Pool has been resolved.

Sample rates are now editable when creating custom encoding templates for .wav and .avi files.

A bug that caused Vegas to crash if you adjusted an Assignable FX input fader when multiple busses and assignable effects controls selected has been fixed.

Left and right arrow keys now move by one pixel and land on a frame boundary. If you hold Alt, arrow keys will move by single frames.

Dynamic RAM Preview now works with external monitor.

A Windows Media streaming bug has been fixed.

Video Capture:

Dropped frames during capture (or recapture) will not change the length of the captured file.

Improvements in DV batch capture and recapture from Vegas.

Support for additional DV decks has been added.

Improvements in DV timecode reading resulting in more accurate dropped-frame counts.

Improvements in DV scene detection.

Fixed bugs for DV and analog out-of-space errors.

See the Vegas and Video Capture readme files for more details.

Does 3.0a also include the new MainConcept codecs?

Thanks,
Bob

GG: you may want to check the cache settings in your browser. I use Netscape and i have the "check for updates every time" setting checked. Every time i click a link i see the updated forum pages. There must be a similar setting in MSIE somewhere if that's what you're using.

Tools/Internet Options/General, then click the Settings button under Temporary Internet files. The "Automatically" setting is the default and works for me. If it doesn't work for you, then you could try "Every visit to the page". If that still doesn't work, there may be a proxy caching the pages.

What are install instructions: install over top of existing 3.0; uninstall 3.0 first?

Yes, you can install on top of 3.0. The installer will ask you if you want to update. Also, 3.0a has all the latest updates to the MainConcept codecs.

GG,

See if you are directly connected to a proxy. Go to Tools/Internet Options/Connections. If you are on cable or DSL, click on LAN settings and uncheck the "Use proxy server for your LAN" checkbox. If you're on dial-up, you'll have to check the settings for your particular dial-up connection. Don't lose your proxy settings though. Sometimes it's a requirement to make an Internet connection.

A proxy is just a computer between you and SOFO that stores frequently used pages. When you request a page, the proxy may decide that it already has it and send you what it has instead of calling SOFO's server. Proxys are supposed to obey certain cache-control headers but some will mis-behave.

Does this update fix the windows media problem where files will play locally but not off of the server?
