Wherever you move the yellow triangle should be the "default" speed. You can also click and drag that tool to get variable speeds.

thanks for reply...I can not get the yellow triangle to adjust to any value between 1.00 and .83. What I want to do, for example is set it to .95. Is there anyway to do this?

Even moving the white slider jumps from 1.0 to .96 no matter how meticulously I attempt to move it with the mouse...and of course, it doesn't stay there. And I can't set it as the default due to what I outlined above.

Any additional thoughts? Thanks for your efforts:)

If you stretch the track header area out wider you'll make the scrub rate slider longer too and that will allow finer setting. Once you've got it set at the value you want you can shrink the header area again.

Just curious, but why are you so interested in an exact rate? This only affects preview playback. It won't make any difference to the output when you render the file.

thanks for the tip...i'll try it out when I get to my video machine.
I can imagine why you'd be curious...I would be too!

Here's what I'm doing... I am comparing rebroadcasts of the single best show ever to grace the American airwaves (I speak of course of the Andy Griffith Show) with tapes made 25 years ago. The old tapes contain sections which are edited out to make space for commercials nowadays...So...I play the recent rebroadcasts from Vegas on my monitor, and play the old tapes from VCR on TV. I synchronize them, and let it play. Anytime they are different, I stop, capture the deleted section from the old tape, put it into the rebroadcast version and continue on. Thus I get the complete episode, with best quality material (the rebroadcast material) combined with the (usually best/funniest) material (from the older, much poorer quality tapes).

The playback rate of the old VCR tapes is slightly slower than current rebroadcast rates (they'll do anything to squeeze in a few extra commercial seconds). So...if I let 'em play together, they drift apart after a few seconds. By fine tuning the playback speed for scrubbing, I can let 'em go until I reach deleted material.
And that, I'm sure, is more than you ever wanted to know :)

aaghh!. your suggestion for expanding the track header area does not work for me. no matter how large I expand it, my options for setting the default remaing at .33 .50 .66 .83 1.00 1.16 1.33 1.50 1.66 1.83 & 2.00. I can not change it from these. Any other thoughts on how to adjust scrub playback speed would be very much appreciated:)

Must be a difference between V3 and V4. It works as stated in Vegas 4.
mayberryman wrote on 9/3/2003, 4:41 PM
let me make sure I understand....if you expand the track header area, you gain additional settings at which you can set the default playback speed (denoted by the yellow triangle)? Can you set the default at .99? If this is so, then you must be right....I've never seen it advertised (infinitely adjustable default playback for scrub speed) for vegas 3.0......

This may be one (of several) reasons for me to upgrade. Thanks for double-checking on this for me. I appreciate it.

Just click the rate and type in .95.

success! unbelievable how simple that tip is...but I've never thought to actually click there. Thanks theigloo! You made my day!
