Now, running Vegas 4.0 with windows XP, everything works out perfectly (I had some problems with the mainconcept plug-in since I was running windows ME). Thanks again to all of you. Happy New Year.
Was this a upgrade or a clean install?
==============
Yes, I'd like to know that as well in case I ever decide to open the sealed box I have had for two years of Windows XP Pro to install over my flawless installation of Windows 98SE.
Thanks again folks. Glad to hearing from ya, Muttley hehehehehhehe.......Answering some questions: that was a clear install. (please folks, I am a newbie; do not get rid of your windows 98 SE yet). By the way, I was just wondering the name of that plug-in that make transitions for Vegas 4.0....Is FX ins't it? WOW...what a masterpiece!
Craftech, I don't recommend an upgrade, clean install....In the other forums I host, there was a huge discussion and sad thread list on this about a year ago. Too many tribbles in the upgrade path, it seems...I went from 98 to Win2K, so did an XP upgrade from 2K. No issues there.
SE is/was a good OS, no doubt. Just a hardware gremlin in modern times, plus the FAT/NTFS issue. But it sure runs light and fast. (still have a laptop with SE on it. But for Cunhambebe....ME was a pig. Even Microsoft was embarassed by it.
Hi there, finally, it's January again.....hummm....Well, I'd just like to get to know the name of the plug-in that make transitions for Vegas 4.0. IS THAT FX????
Spot,
I seem to recall in an older article or post you did that you had a 3DFX Voodoo 5 5500 video card in one of your computers. Did you ever find a reliable driver for Windows XP? If so, which one if I might ask?
Regards,
John
I also upgraded from Win98se to XP over the past 3-4 weeks. I did a clean install because of the known potential problems with performing just the upgrade. Vegas 4 is working perfectly.
To those that are still thinking about upgrading, do it. XP is a huge improvement over Win98. Remember all those crashes in Win98 because of the lack of system resources? Problem solved in XP, my PC has never crashed since I upgraded.
I too am a convinced fan of XP now (I use XP Home and VV4.0). BillyGates seems to have made the Windows kernel bulletproof. In other (unscientific) words, the XP kernel is the bear and you're the software. In ME you ate the bear. In XP, the bear eats you. XP will crash a program before it will allow itself to be crashed.
I have been using Xp Pro with Vegas for 2 years now and its the best.. rock solid and it always has no problem in picking up your camera when its inserted into your firewire port.. But a clean install is the way to go...
Well folks, I've found out something - I guess it happens with most newbies: I couldn't open (viewing) MPEG 2 files within WinME (remember that problem?) WELL, IT HAPPENED BECAUSE WINME DOESN'T HAVE AN MPEG 2 DECODER.....I had to install one (DESPITE THE FACT SOME SAY THAT VEGAS COMES WITH ALONG WITH IT).....it works (I thought Vegas wasn't rendering as MPEG 2 files on ME platform). About the other problem: it is just the same - Vegas can't open any MPEG files so as to put them in the timeline. To make it more concise: I recommend a clean install for XP.
Sorry for my ignorance. Get XP which is a lot better than ME.
PS: I have 2 pcs at home.....one running XP and the other one still running (lolll) ME.
