Vegas 4.0 problem

When I try to add my .avi video clips with divx codec I try and drag
them on through the explorer or media pool and it wont let them on the
timeline they have the cross out cursor and wont be placed. When I do
this with audio tracks they drop right in. When I load a past project up
the video clips which are not text are blank and dont play anything.
When I right click on them and go to properties it says under atributes:
stream (offline). what does this mean and how do I turn it online or
make them work.
I have used vegas 4.0 before and it has worked then I resently
reformated and reinstalled it but now this problem occurs.

Have you re-registered since you reinstalled? I'm not sure about DivX compatibility but I know some Vegas features and codecs require registration each time it's installed for functionality.

DivX changed their codec some time in version 5 (or 4). It's a DivX problem, not Vegas.

Do a search on it to find pssible fixes.

do any of you know what it means under atributes when it says (Stream Offline) under the media pool?

When i click on properties when im in the explorer a dif menu description apears and says under atributes: archive.

I tried dling another divx codec and still same thing.

I reformated and kept my clips in a seperate partition but now they dont work and ive tried a sample viedo clip that windows gives and that works. if this helps describes better please help.

that does work but is a pain. do you know if divx is compatable in 5.0 or 6 for vegas?

I told you... read my post. It's a divx problem, NOT vegas. They changed things, not Sony. Divx is a crappy editing format. It's going to be slow & look terrable anyway. If you don't want to do a search, then do what marquat said. If you don't want to do that do a search.

Again, it's divx. Divx 1,2,3 & 4 work perfectly fine with Vegas. 5 doesn't.

i understand your meaning but i dont understand why i used the same codec before even version divx 5 and it worked fine i could insert the clips no problems just click drag. now i cant even do that unless its uncompessed???
