Vegas 4: Slow down Video and Audio in sync

I am just migrating from Vegas 3 to Vegas 4.

I have this one shot where both the video and the audio are such that the effect I need can be achieved by slowing down the audio and video synchronously. Sure I can shift the video exactly as I want with a Velocity envelope. What I am missing is an Audio Velocity envelope to keep then in sync. Also I want to slow down the audio linearly and maintain the pitch. (OK, this guy doesn't want much huh?)

Any help appreciated!

Thanks!

If you hold down the CTRL key and drag the end of a clip it will change the speed of the clip. The same thing works with the audio tracks, however you can only get so much before it distorts the audio. If you want the audio to actually change in pitch like the chipmunks on a sped up video, then I'm not sure how to do it. There may be a switch in the clip properties to turn off "maintaining the pitch" or else you'll probably have to open the audio in SoundForge and change the audio to the length of the final video clip.

Right-click the audio clip and select properties. Under "Time stretch/pitch shift" choose "Change length/preserve pitch"

Shift-select the audio and video track (you should have split and isolated the section you want to speed up or slow down), then ctrl-drag it to the right (if you want to slow it down), test, then change as needed.

I do know how to made the modification to a clip, but what I cannot figure out how to do, except in DC Art, is to linearly 'drag out' the audio. Similar to switching off the motor on a turntable with a monster platter. Then, if I could do it, I would like to somewhat maintain the pitch. That last 'wish will probably go out the window as I know how much distortion and artifacts increase when you get past a certain ratio.

Looks like I'll have to go out of the SF family for the linear slowdown of the audio. It just isn't going to work well to break the audio into a large number of clips and manipulate each one to get the effect of a linearly reduction of audio playback speed.

Anybody have another idea, or maybe did I miss something here?

You see, what I want is:

FEATURE REQUEST: A velocity envelope on the Audio tracks AND a way of syncing the velocity of one or more audio tracks to one or more video tracks.

Thanks for the ideas.

So far I like Vegas 4 with the added features. Wonder if it shouldn't really be 3.1, but I will cut some slack because DVD Architect seems like a major leap forward in this price category.
