Vegas 4, the real deal

Spot|DSE wrote on 1/7/2003, 1:57 PM
Hey all,
Since someone leaked screen shots, SOFO has given us permission to post a 'real' screen shot that they've approved. You can see it at http://www.sundancemediagroup.com/vegas.htm
There is more info there as well.
Thanks to the SOFO marketing dept for allowing us to share. Since some other turkey already did.

It might be early and I might be a whining bastard but I really needed meters and a proper mixing environment and I don't see either from this shot. Oh well.

What do you mean, 'proper mixing environment' and what were you expecting from SF? A change from the design and ergonomic principles that have dominated their work from the beginning?

Is there hardware mixing console support?
Mackie control or something...

Edna - Wayne's right in that individual track metering would certainly have been nice; it's a standard feature on every other DAW I've used. A lack of processing power is no longer an issue these days...

On the plus side, I think it's great news for us audio guys that they've obviously taken notice of our whining and dropped the 'Video' label from Vegas. It's now just Vegas 4. Cool.

Here's to hoping SoFo see through this rocky period, hold on to their A/V software and continue producing the best audio software on the planet.

So where's the "unapproved" screen shots posted at, we would like to see those also?

I'm glad to hear they listened to us about dropping the "Video" part off the Vegas name......although, I still like the name "Anvil"...maybe for the next inovated piece of software?

SoFo deleted the thread they were posted on. I saw them, and I can tell you that these are just as good/better. Also, they didn't go into as much detail as this "official" leak.

The unofficial screenshot showed much of the same thing... it's geared towards the video crowd. It showed more of the color correction options. Luckily, every time I go to work, I get to see it... it's my new wallpaper!

"Luckily, every time I go to work, I get to see it... it's my new wallpaper!"

You've just expanded the boundaries of geektom to a new level.

Damn, if this were ANY product other than Vegas, I'd probably be offended! ;)

Seriously though, I work for the local PBS affiliate. You'd damn well better believe that I plug Vegas every opportunity I get. I only have one convert so far, but it's a start.

The "illegal" screen shots disappeared. I can only imagine that SOFO's legal folks chased em' down.
I'll say that there are some audio tools in Vegas 4 that you all will love. You'll be surprised, because it goes down some roads that SOFO's people have said in the past that they'd never go down...
As a looooonnnngggg time user of SOFO tools (I've been beta testing for 9 years) I'll say I was really surprised.

That’s great to hear spot. What has always set Vegas and Acid apart is that they follow different rules to all the other audio apps. It makes them truly great, but sometimes sticking too rigidly to their own rules has stoped them from taking the next step.

No matter how solid a software design philosophy is, sometimes in a real-world, practical sense you need the exception that proves the rule. Sounds like Vegas is starting to make that jump.

...[sigh]...I really hope our babies end up in the right hands... :-(

When will the official list of Vegas 4 features be made public?
I'm wishing I had asked to be part of the Vegas 4 beta testing now! (after helping with AC-3/Acid/DVDA).

Can anyone confirm whether there will be a public beta? I hope SoFo don't make the same mistake they did with Acid 4, whose numerous bugs were a result of no public beta testing.

I can't confirm, cuz I don't work for SOFO, but I'll say that there will be most likely a public beta.
