...I've been looking for freelance work in NYC recently and Avid/FCP are all that's seen far and wide. That desktop might be a nice addition...

What's the icon to the left of the Vegas 5 icon in the taskbar? The film strip and gear...

ok -- qt has a habit of wanting to take over everything -- have to slap it around now and then ...

now a couple new funny errors:

"error: render job 'z-black:53704/4' failed: Not enough storage is available to complete this operation."
(this is a 500gig raid with 200gig free and it was only a 9gig file i was rendering to -- so x2 i needed 18 gig)

Error: render job 'z-black:53704/5' failed: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
(no idea what this was -- it was on one node only and it failed but other nodes completed that render)

Presets: I would love for the name of the applied preset to stay in the preset text window and not change to (untitled) after you close the preset window. I find this very annoying.

I second that. Totally counter productive.

got another little bug show up in 5:

import any type of file seq. - no probem ... do all your editing , now use replace source file with another file seq. all it imports is the first frame even though everything is checked off for import of a file seq (vegas see's it correctlly) .
or
do all you editing on a avi and replace source with a file seq .. agan only first frame shows up ..

editing a file seq and replace with a avi or qt works ok ..

this used to work ok before ....

workaround is to frame serve file seq. to vegas as fake avi ... slows things down a lot (i am editing hd material - 3D), and doing this with v-dub causes a 1 frame shift (prob. not a vegas issue) .

workflow last night ->

frame serve 3 streams of HD file seq. into one vegas and 3 HD streams into another -> frame serve out of both vegas into a third vegas running -> frame serve out of vegas #3 into avsynth for resizing (better quality) and save to a huffyuv file .. it would better to have to not frame serve INTO vegas#1 and #2 but i had no choice --

so you ARE shooting stereo... I was wondering about the "3D" on the photo of your camera that you posted earlier. Cool.

I'm curious what stereo format you are outputting to HuffyUV? Side by side? Over Under? What resolution? Is there a standard in the industry? Where can I see the stuff you are editing? IMAX? Industrial?

Which frame server are you using to connect the Vegas's?

I'm just using a pair of Canon consumer camcorders - hoping to make/sell tourism related content on CDROM someday. Sorry for all the questions, but hey... it's not every day you meet someone who is shooting / editing stereo 3d. It's a very technically challenging art / science. And in HD?! Damn. I was thinking maybe in a year I could get into HD.

its shot in 70mm(65mm) film , or done in cgi (or most often both) , if we shot it in HD , would be a heck of lot cheaper but hard to blow up to 90' plus size screens
... in this case i am doing editing/re-compositing for testing/marketing purposes of left and right eye converted to anagraph (never our delivered format though) .

resolution in this case is 1080p30 ....

i dont use cineform and use vegas to edit HD and above all the time -- using a proxy method or directly.

there is no standards (developed our own) and 3D 2k delivery in digital (really 4k 2x2)) or on 70mm film is our final format most of the tme ..

you can see our stuff all over the place (see website) - maybe i will post a anagraph edited/created in vegas downsized for web.

frame serve to vegas with virtualdub w/ vfapi wrapper is one way.

Thanks for the info. What is your web site? I know I'd appreciate the downloadable video... I have only stills on my site - no video yet. And they are over a year old - before I learned a whole lot. TIme for an update, but... www.immersivepublishing.com

When you say anagraph I assume you mean anaglyph? (color separation technique used in Spy Kids - not commonly used for commerical presentation) Or are you experimenting with something else?

Anaglyph is fantastic when it is done right, but that's rare.

Hey, I just tried what you recommended: It works great! This was a long missing feature. Thanks for that info!

haha -- i didn't notice this realtime spell checker changed anaglyph to anagraph ... stupid thing supposed to help me ... whats an anagraph?

www.simex-iwerks.com http://www.turboride.com are our websites - which need a overhaul in the worst way ..

ill post part of movie later today ..

into -> vdubmod or tmpegenc or avisynth or DPS frame server (you have to use vfapi wrapper most times)

out of -> plugin pac frame server with Vegas 5 patch
