Vegas 5/DVDA2 breaks AcidPro4 AC3

Long story short, fresh install of WinXP, pruchased Vegas+DVD 5. Installed Acid Pro 4.0f, installed 5.1 plugin, which worked previously with Vegas+DVD 4.

No AC3 save as option.....

Installed Vegas 5, DVDA2. AC3 works fine in those apps. Tried Acid 4 again, Now AC3 is listed as an option to save as. Click AC3, click save, and I am greeted with the Purchase 5.1 plugin dialog, requestng a key, or a purchase.

How do I get the 5.1 plugin to work? I tried uninstalling, clearing the registry of SF/SONY keys, reinstalling in different order (first Vegas/DVD then Acid Pro) I can't get Acid to create AC3 files.

I have run the migration tools from both the Sonic Foundry and the Sony program groups - that didn't help.

I tried reinstalling Acid Pro, telling it to use the SONY/SHARED PLUGINS folder. When I do that, ACID crashes with an exception when trying to use AC3.

Anyone know how to get this working?

I'm going to post this in all the relevant forums.

i'm also having issues with some plug-ins working (noise reduction, wavearts, BBE and others) working in V5 + DVDA2 .. i can get them to sometimes to work if i completly remove all reg sony/sf entries in the registry after deleting ALL sony/SF apps ) , then re-installing in order of age ..

never could get noise reduction working and if i install any new dx plug-in - everything all screwed up again ..

dropping the dll on the time line just royally screws up all audio dx plugins . i use dxman to remove dx plug-ins or to see if they are properly registered, i never had problems with v4 like this -- well as bad anyway ...

i would also like to know what is going on and doing a complete reformat is not an option ..

Yea, this started around the time of the latest updates to Sonic Foundry programs that started renaming everything to Sony. I got hit with this too. When I upgraded to the latest version of Sony Vegas 4, my XFX-3 Plug-In Pack could no longer be used in other DirectX capable applications. They showed up as demo mode only but the XFX1 & XFX2 worked fine. I had to call Sony and they couldn’t figure it out so they actually gave me a serial number for the old Sonic Foundry XFX3 and allowed me to install that. I don’t have this problem on my laptop where I left the older versions of this program on so I know it was the Sony name change that messed things up.

No amount of uninstalling and deleting registry entries would work for me. I even uninstalled ALL Sonic Foundry/Sony products and used a registry cleaner program to delete anything with Sonic Foundry or Sony in the name. I don’t think complete reformat would solve anything either. The programs just aren’t as compatible as they need to be because of the Sonic Foundry/Sony name change. I realize they provided migration utilities but they seem to miss some things.

I suggest you contact Sony and they will work things out for you.

So what system does Sony Vegas 5 etc use so it know you have tried the demo already and prohibits a restrt of the grace period?

mhbstevens - thats a different issue , completly .

i doubt it's allowed to have 2 trial periods anyway ..

In the Sonic Foundry days, you just plugged your key into the demo and it became the registered version. Sony has changed that with its timed demos so I don’t know what the correct procedure is. I plan to uninstall the demo tomorrow when my boxed version arrives and then install Vegas 5+DVD. Perhaps someone from Sony (or someone else who as done this) can comment on whether the demo and be upgraded in place to the full version.

As B_JM states, this is not the issue we were discussing in this thread. The problem we were talking about involved a name change from Sonic Foundry to Sony for existing DirectX filters that somehow got a lot of programs confused.
