Vegas 5 : Event Pan/Crop Tool Messed Up ?

TheDingo wrote on 4/22/2004, 9:44 AM
Hi All,

I want to crop a standard DV25 captured video from 720x480
down to 690x460.

In Vegas 4e, I just open up the Event Pan/Crop window and
enter a width of 690 and hit the ENTER key, and I'm done.

In Vegas 5a, I open up the Event Pan/Crop window and
try to enter a width of 690, but as soon as I select the
"Position Width" field the "Height" field jumps from 480
to 528. What the hey is going on ?

The Vegas 5a "Event Pan/Crop" tool seems totally messed up!

maybe "lock aspect ratio" was selected?... :-)

Nope. Even if it was, the crop size should automatically
shrink NOT grow.

Something is VERY messed up with the Vegas 5
"Event Pan / Crop" tool.

I've been forced to go back to Vegas 4 in order to
crop any DV25 footage. ( pain in the butt )

I hope this is fixed in the next update!

I also have noticed some weirdness when entering height and width settings in the Position fields. However, I was able to manually set a 690x460 frame size by carefully dragging the edges of the frame in the Event Pan/Crop workspace. You could do this once and then save as a custom preset.

[edit] After further experimenting with Pan/Crop, I am not seeing the problem every time so I don't know what's going on or why it happens sometimes and not others.

Thanks for the temporary solution.

I'm quite surprised that Sony shipped Vegas 5 with this bug.
( I use the Event Pan/Crop tool in almost every Vegas project I create. )

Otherwise, I'm quite happy with the new Vegas 5 features.
