Vegas 5 is a yawn

I hate to unrinate on the Vegas parade, but I looked at the new features of Vegas 5, downloaded the demo and, subsequently, deleted the demo. I will not be upgrading. There is nothing here worth $199.00 to me - and I hate the new Toys-R-Us interface.

Unlike Version 3 to Version 4, this is not a major upgrade. It should have been called Vegas 4.5. The addition of compositing features for some might be a big deal, but for an After Effects/Commotion user, it ain't no big thang. I would have preferred solid improvements as an NLE (EDL and media management), not additional features that, in my opinion, should be done in other, dedicated applications.

DVDA 2 might be worth it, but I haven't looked at it yet. So far DVDA 1 does what I need it to.

A missed opportunity that proves Sony wasn't listening.

"not a major upgrade"

Apparently you didn't really USE the software you downloaded. Also don't forget that there is a lot more that Doesn't come with the demo version like the Boris package. $149 for the upgrade too, not $199. Worth every single penny, and a lot more!

As I indicated, I already own compositing software (After Effects 6 and Commotion 4.1). I already own Magic Bullet (full version) and I already own titing software.

I wanted an improved NLE, a better Vegas, and I didn't get it.

If the trinkets do it for you, that's great. I would have gladly accepted them if they came with a better Vegas.

Is this what you mean by Toys-R-Us?

I trust this is the new interface. Is this a custom one or the standard?

Looks a lot like the Boris standard.

Yes, it is the new interface. I just moved the panels around because I like the video to be on top with tracks on the bottom. You can save custom layouts to hot keys. I'm going to make one with a small preview for when I need more track space too.

Thanks for the response, I like the look and your organization.

Cheesehole... LOL!!!

Apparently, some people have a wicked sophistication with NLE software but just don't quite understand the OS they are using.

If you don't like V5 keyboard layout change it! If you don't like the V5 window layout change it, if you don't like the presets change them! And for God Sake if you don't like the V5 colors change them too!

Well there is one more option. If you don't like the NLE you can always change that :)

johnnycamcorder :) I have all those things you mention... I could agree with you.. But how could vegas Improve the editing side of it ? I suppose there are little things Like what zipps goes on about... For me I cant see anything that I would want. Except perhaps 16 Bit Color Space.. If I was too have everything I could want. It would be to combine Commotion, AE, Particle Illusion, Boris red, ECT All into one timeline. So No More rendering OUT. This Seems to be the direction Vegas is THINKING. Compatability, Usability, Friendliness, Stability. And Someone mentioned the Programing is taking a more Tree like Structure ? This will give it a lot more scope for adding ON Different Stuff ?

When I edit I go over the same edit point at least 6 Times trying to get the Timing right ect All this speed editing going for quickness How can Professional Editing be quick ?
