Vegas 6.0b does not recognize DCR-PC1000

I have verifed that my Sony DCR-PC1000 camcorder is recognized by Windows Movie Maker and have successfully transferred video (through the 1394 i-link connection from the camcorder) to the computer via the Windows Movie Maker software. However, Vegas Video 6.0b does not recognize the Sony DCR-PC1000 - in the capture window DEVICE NOT AVAILABLE is displayed. I have rebooted numerous times and still have not been able to get Vegas to recognize the Sony DCR-PC1000. Help please.

In addition, the Vegas 6.0 Video captur Readme says, "If you are having capture problems, try clearing the Enable DV device control check box in the Preferences dialog. "

However, there is no such check box in any of the Preferences tabs! Any hep would be appreciated.

Simple thing first. Try turning the device off and on. Assuming you;re running Win XP it should give a bong as the device goes on and off. As you can get WMM to capture I guess that much is working correctly.
Now when you go to Capture Video from V6 did you select External Capture? If not, do that, else it's looking for a HDV or SDI device.

Bob.

/edit/ There's nothing wrong using WMM to capture if you're really stuck, at least you'll get started.

Thanks Bob very much for your response. Where can you select External Capture? When I select capture, the capture window is immediately opened showing Device not available. There is no place to select external capture that I can see.

Thanks for your help.
