Vegas 6 avi choppy

I have a 15-min m2t clip that I am working with in Vegas 6. Once the clip was on the timeline it became choppy and difficult to edit, so I rendered it to an avi 1080i-60, and that was not much better. I re-rendered it to 720i-30 and it was much better. Why can't I use the m2t file directly insead of converting it? Is Vegas 9 any better? I am using a dual core 3GHz PC with 1.5G of memory with Windows xp.

6 was never designed to handle hdv!

Thanks for your reply - I am confused as to why the box says HD editing Software and also why are there several HD rendering templates?

If I can't use Vegas 6, what version is best for m2t?
