B&H has good prices on equipment, not they are not great on software prices. Thus they may have been caught with a backlog of software. That's one theory. Here's another.
how about this.....
B&H is obviously the most imporant video retailer in NY. They are also a big sponsor of Vegas events, of VASST events, of HDV events, etc. So they would probably be the first retailer to find out when Vegas 7 is coming out.
AND
Sony Media Software and Vasst just announced the Vegas Certification tour. The first dates on that are August 7th. I'll bet they will be demoing and training on Vegas 7 on that tour. The tour will hit NYC, the third week in August and will be right down the block from B&H. Certifying folks on Vegas 7 will be an extra incentive for people to come out for the tour. It will generate a lot of buzz for Vegas 7 since you will have a bunch of folks who got to see the new features demoed by pros.
The rumor has been that Vegas 7 will debut in September. If that's true, it makes no sense to do training on Vegas 6 the third week in August.
Sony usually allows you a free upgrade if you buy the previous version of Vegas within 30 days. I'm pretty sure you will be able to walk out of any certification session and buy an upgradeable copy of Vegas 7.
They should let MAC people know about this. They can run it on their dual boot Macs and realize that there is a lower priced equivalent to FCP. Might pick up some converts. LOL
Will Sony offer a cheaper upgrade package for current V6 users (even if we've had it for over a year)? I'd hate to have to go spend another couple hundred bucks if I could get away with it cheaper.
I was looking to pick up Movie Studio+DVD Platinum at Best Buy this weekend, at $129. For $20 more, I'll get this ... but my question is this :
When the new version 7 is released, will it be cheaper for me to "upgrade" than to buy new ? I'm interested in the DVD Authoring portion as well (Pinnacles horrendous Menu System is what's forcing me to change) ... it sounds like I can expect to pay an additional $200 or so to upgrade to the Vegas 7 + DVD whenever it's released.
