Bob,

You should look at the clip logger in Vegie toolkit. I use it to take in simple tab-delimited log files to base a capture session on. The tool has been a real lifesaver to me because we have several years worth of logs for a certain job. It's fairly easy for me to go get the log entries, make a custom log, and then import it to a timeline for subsequent capture.

If the tool doesn't yet allow handles, it probably will soon if you ask for it. Randall is very responsive.

The site is www.peachrock.com but I just checked and there's something wrong with the site at the moment.

Ability to Render Mpeg2 file with AC3 this would save valuable time.

#1 I use Sound Forge a lot and like to open copies of audio clips from Vegas in SF. The problem is you have to save the clip with its current name to have it as an alternate take in Vegas. I like to save things with a brief description of what I did to it so it will make sense later and this precludes that.

#2 You lose the names of subclips and their folders when you bring them into a nw veg file. The subclips and folders are there, but the names are gone. It's been a while since I tried it and you may only lose the folder names, but that's a big deal to me. Kind of like having a huge file cabinet with no names on the folders. Or at the least it's like having a well organized cabinet of files but you can't take anything out or put anything in w/o losing the file's name.

I'm sooooooo much with you monica about this...
Damn, we're talking about a real, serious ***tool*** here ! ; )

I don't know how it works in Premiere but I'll sure have a look at this...

Rob,

Thanks for your suggestion. I have e-mailed peachrock, describing this request.

Personally, I hope with V6, they incoporate some of the features that have been offered in add on programs to help save on costs to Vegas users. For example, multicam editing. While its easy to use under TsunamiNeon/etc..., I would love a bit more professional look and feel with multiple windows similar to what www.unitedmediainc.com Multicam does for Premiere Pro. Working with only one media window is one of the down sides for me with Vegas.

While I am all for developers/users making a buck by making Vegas easier to use, I feel that Sony should be incoporating these ideas into Vegas so people dont have to drop $129 on Ultimate S for one or two the features they offer.

Again, I feel they MUST provide HDV capture as Avid and Adobe have done for their users. Granted, the price for the Cineform codec is much cheaper for Vegas users but if these other companies can provide it for free to their customers, then why not Sony?

Auto Color, auto match are a must.

Personally, I feel this would be a good time for Sony to jump ahead in the game and maybe even license Nero's H.264 AVC codec for use in Vegas espcially with H.264 being included in the new HD-DVD specs. Mp4 container support and the ability to encode LC/HE-AAC audio would be a massive plus.

One thing I would like to see Sony do more of is scripts for Vegas users. Its great that other users create scripts, but I would like to see Sony offer more scripts especially since Vegas lacks so much plugin support. Add some sort of hardware to boost performance.

If Sony can bring this to the table, I can finally get rid of Premiere and Avid from my system and focus more on a more closely integrated solution with Sony products. Adobe had the vision right when they made all thier apps play nicely together.Imagine Vegas, DVD Arch, SF, and Acid playing nicely the same way? That would be awesome.

Maybe Sony can start developing to rival After Effects or Boris. Personally, I believe Sony is leaving too much money out there for the competiition.

edit: oh yeah, almost forgot. Media management similar to Avid.

"A multilanguage version (French, Spanish, German etc...) "

For sure! They could even sell Vegas to more schools, for example.

Incorporating those third party scripts my be one of those "walking the tightrope areas" which would create some suble animosities.

JJK, I understand that but as a customer of Vegas, I could care less if it creates animosities. As a Vegas user, I want those functionalities in the program I paid for and use without having to shell out extra cash for add ons. Its nothing personal towards those developers but more a cost concious customer.

Look what Microsoft has done. They use the same mentality by adding features that people want in one package (i.e. cd burning, browser, etc.)

Frankly, my idea is that if Sony could take the ideas that are offered in third party's offerings and put there programmers on it, then we could concievably have a better product all around that meets the user's needs.

'Nested/folder tracks' for sure
p@mast3rs wrote on 2/5/2005, 2:08 PM
I think why companies always seem to fail to deliver is because companies rarely ever tell customers what to expect in next versions. I understand companies dont want to give competitors the upper hand or have their features released to early, but man, it gets old when companies ask for input from users only to see requests go unfilled.

I guarrantee you will not see MP4 container support in V6 and I requested that before V5 was released.

I would be happy if I could just program a macro to an F-key. For example, I can't count the number of times that I've keystroked [alt][p], [n], [alt][p], [i], [alt][f], [a], then type the file name. I would love just to press F-12 or some key that is programmed and then just have to type the filename and press enter. Yeah, I'm lazy.
FuTz wrote on 2/8/2005, 1:12 PM

Maybe Track Lock ? One that bypasses Ripple Edit function so if I want to move several tracks at once, I just have to lock the -only or few- track(s) I want to keep "as is"...

I forgot to elaborate on my memory reccommendation:
Have V5 , prior to rendering, check the entire project for areas of excessive memory usage, then after these areas are marked pre-render them to avi one at a time, and after each pre-render delete the files that are in the media pool ,reset the paging file then do the next pre render, delete the files in the media pool, then reset the paging file until the pre-renders are complete. Then the master render can complete without any problems. If the project is to be saved the avi files must be inserted automatically into there respective areas on the timeline. If memory usage is hugely excessive V5 can use logic to pre-render small bits at a time to knock down the memory sucker areas of the timeline.

Volume Envelope for audio at Clip level too.
And with right-click on event, like Grazie suggested...

Same with audio FX; choice to use at Clip level or not.

I have several volunteers at my church who are using Vegas to edit 2, 3 and 4 camera worship services. It would be really helpful for us if Vegas had a 2nd "preview" monitor to which we could assign 1 video track or up to 4 or 9 video tracks by subdivision.

I want to see what the timeline provides on the primary preview monitor, but see up to 4 or 9 source video streams (at the current time in the timeline) on the 2nd preview monitor.

Fingers crossed,

John.

You really ought to take a look at Excalibur. It will really simplify your 2, 3, and 4 camera edits. (Shoot - it would simplify your 5-25 camera edits too)
