Vegas 6d render crash

Yoyodyne wrote on 3/10/2006, 1:25 AM
This has happened a couple of times now, although it seems to not be based on any specific codec or media type, wish I could re-produce consistently. Just wondering if anyone is getting the "Vegas has encountered an error" message during renders in 6d more than with 6c. It's only happened twice so no big deal but.....

Thanks for any info -

I seem to be getting more of them with 6d.

It also seems to happen if I've been doing a lot of continuous work...like memory is not being released/being corrupted.

I think I'll start saving/closing Vegas when I take a break, rather than leaving it up and running.

Verrrrry interesting guys. Very interesting.

I've been having this problem ever since 6c, but nobody has been able to get to the bottom of it. My crashes always tend to happen when I am editing from MXF files. First of all I get a crash which seems to consistently happen while I am playing the timeline. Then after Vegas has gone from the screen after the initial error message I get a "memory could not be read...." type message.

This shouldn't be happening, and most others have a rock solid system, What are the system specs you guys are using. I wonder if there is anything consistent between our machines. I can pass on the information.

Thanks for the replies guys - I also get this when I've been banging away on the system for long hours - I also have the preview mpeg -2 crash issue still but I don't think this stuff is related. Other than that the system performs great - here are my specs;

Antec 180 case
550 watt SLI rated Antec psu
Asus a8n -sli premium mobo
AMD x2 4800 proc
2 drive raptor raid for system
4 drive raptor raid for media
1 pci express-16 6800gt vid card
1 pci express-16 6800 vid card
-vid cards in non-sli mode - I'm using 4 monitors

temps are all in the low 50's during %100 percent cpu load and I can run two instances of prime 95 (one instance for each core) with no problems.

That's really strange, I have 6d and have put in lots of hours of editing and not had any problems. The goes for another computer in my house which isn't quite as rock solid as mine and still performs great.

I remember last year after Vegas 6 first came out it had lots of render troubles in CBR and the Sony Forum administrator replied and suggested downloading the latest revision of DVD Architect (even if it's just the demo version) to install the latest Main Concept MPEG plugin. I had the whole Vegas+DVD package and downloaded the updated revision of DVD Architect and that did the trick. I don't know if this would be the case now since a few more revisions of Vegas 6 has come out since then but thought I'd share.

This problem is interesting because I thought I was the only one having the problem. Nobody has been able to repro my problem. And this is the trouble. Unless something can be reproduced it can't be fixed. So I think it is significant that someone else may be having the same problems as me.
