Hi,

Check your RAM preview memory setting. It should not be set to zero, othervice you might experience slow render times like this. I'll bet that is your problem. Set the amount of preview ram to something like 128MB and try again :)

Additionally, make sure that you also have selected 4 as maximum number of threads so that all 4 cores are utilized.

Thanks for responding,
I've tried all of the usual suspects that I've seen on this message board, but nothing has helped. I haven't been happy with 7 in general and the rest of the dept. refuses to use it. Upgrading to "e" from 7.0 cured the audio dropout problem we were having on our old machines, but now I'm wondering if the jump to 8 would be worth trying.

Hi,

I never personally had the V5 version, so I cannot compare. You could try to run the "New Rendertest" found elsewhere in this forum, so we could compare the raw speed of your system to other's (using the same source material).

Try 7d instead of 7e.

Wait on 8 until 9 comes out.
I bought 8 when it was first available and haven't installed it yet because of all the complaining, which there are still too many complaints. I'm not doing Hi Def, maybe I would be singing a different tune if I was. But from what I've read, I doubt it.
I have other alternatives for fancy lettering, so I see no rush for version 8.
Like Bob says, most agree that version 7d is more stable

Stupid question, I only see the latest version of 7 available to download, anyone know how to get 7.0d?

Ironically, it's the only bookmark I have left in Firefox after losing years of other bookmarks.

Thank you for the link, I just tried 7.0d, same results. Now I think I'll try the 8.0 trial, why not, though this is keeping me from actually getting clips out.

Ah. 8.0b. while not quite as quick as 5, renders twice as quickly as 7. I think it's time for another upgrade.

I tried the rendertest, 1:53 using 7.0a and 2:05 using 8.0b, so those are within a normal range, but using mpeg's as a source really kills the 7 series rendering speed.
