Hi to all Audio Vegas users.
This topic is related to whom has this chain in mind or studio.
For my direct experience this chain doesn't work.
Below a link to a Vegas user with same issues on french forum:
My experience is that I've been waiting for more than 3 years for Sony to do whatever is needed to make both the UAD-1 and Powercore work with Vegas so I can purchase one or both. These units have essentially become mandatory for any serious non-protools DAW studio and neither have shown to be friendly with Vegas (with the exception of UAD-1 with Vegas 5 which although worked, was glitchy and unpredictable at best). Not having support for these units as well as additional support for more external controllers (other than MCU) sure puts Vegas in a compromised, very limited positon if they want to continue marketing to the last few audio loyalists they have. Any serious VIDEO user who wants decent audio would certainly benefit from the powercore or UAD simply to preserve CPU power - not to mention that they sound wayyyyy better than virtually all native plugs. So much for my year end rant . . .
I don't have a powercore so I can't speak much of it. But in terms of the UAD this company has the worst host support EVER! Unless your steinberg you are on your own to bug hunt/tweak/etc to get your host app to work correctly/consistently.
ALL apps have a uad horror story so to come down on sony is a bit off imho. Universal Audio needs to stop playing games and become more open with what steinberg is doing "right" instead of just saying "it works in cubase/nuendo" or "you are not following the vst spec right". ALL B*ll$hit if you ask me. I've followed these guys since their 1.0 driver and I'm surprised that they're still around. Though I agree the plugins sound sweet. BUT...With the advent of QUAD core cpu's [dual as well]and god knows 8 or maybe even more cpu's on a single die coming in the future the life of these cards are nill. Vegas/Acid are coded to utilize as many cores you throw at it. Well if it came down to it I'm positive I could make a killer mix without these uad plugins. Just look at developers like voxengo, wavearts, kjaerhus, izotope, ohm force,URS,tritonedigital, psp audioware...I think that UAD better get THEIR act together quick.
Thanks Ed. I forgot that you can always be counted on to straigten out the rest of us on what's what in the industry and most importantly to keep the Sony banner waving. I too can make killer mixes without UAD or Powercore and do it regularly and its due to experience, skill and good outboard gear. I'd simply like to be able to utilize these units in my work and its frustrating that Vegas doesn't offer it, especially since UAD seems to work just fine with Acid 6. You and I both know that billybk uses 4 of them in his system so I'm not buying that its totally UAD's problem because it clearly isn't. Anyway, Happy mixing in 2007 with whatever many "cores" you keep upgrading too.
Dude I in no way wanted to offend you with what I had to say. The honest truth is that companies like sony/cakewalk spend alot of r&d time on trying to figure out how to NOT break their app to work with one of these cards. Thats resources that could be put to missing features that vegas/acid badly need.
I'm not trying to "wave the sony banner" but rather just adding a bit of my perspective from what I know and see...like it or not. Even Justin from reaper has stated that he has gotten NO help from UA on why support for UAD plugins is so hit and miss and how to correct it.
Look at cakewalk. Here is a company that bends over backwards for their users and they even can't seem to get it right once and for all.
Sorry but I haven't tested/mixed/recorded much with vegas since the release of acid 6. I put alot of time into sending out reports so that the uad card will work right in acid. I was told that the fixes that were made to acid were carried over to vegas.
I also in no way wanted to diss your mixing ability...The point is that at least there was progress made in the audio department with multi-multicore processor utilization. Get yourself one of these babies and even having just one or two UAD/powercore cards would be overkill for some mixes with all the native dsp that you could use. Thats all.
I completely agree with you that we the users have waited a long while to get a system that runs stable with these plugins. IMHO UAD needs to step up as well. Not to say you shouldn't bitch to sony about your wants and needs...But spread the love over at the UAD forums and email UA as well and tell THEM how you feel about THEIR host support.
