Now THAT'S a new one! No idea, my friend. No idea, apart from when I do connect mt DECK I do get the option to choose several software platforms - one of them being the Capture Digital Video - here being Vegas and I guess that would be VidCap.
Now, my guess is that in the past you have checked the "Always perform the selected task" check box. I'm just wondering if you can get into the DIGITAL Video Device driver within the Windows "Control Panel" - the open with the Printers and stuff? - and track down your CAMERA and see if there is a box you can deselect - deselect openning Vegas?
We've had this before .. . maybe a search hereabouts might give you the answer - yeah?
OK, try this. Close Vegas, THEN close unplug or switch-off your camera. Do you get the "Digital Video Device" Pop-up appearing? If you do, see if you can try unchecking the "Always Perform the selected action". Then repeat plugging in camera and see if it starts up Vegas automatically? If you NOW get the option to CHOOSE, make sure the box is unchecked and choose "Take no action". When I get this Menu I choose "Take No Action".
It sounds like you have the Windows "Auto Play" function set wrong.
Connect the camcorder and right click on its icon in My Computer. One of the options is Properties. Choose that and then Auto Play. The choices include things like "open with" where you can select a program to open the software. You want to choose "take on action."
I am not trying this as I write, so the steps may not be exactly right.
Yup, did that - don't find Auto Play - and yes that is exactly what I thought too. Auto Play? Now where would that be when you DON'T want it to .. er .. Auto Play?
I don't get a camera icon on my taskbar. (running WinXP Pro SP2) The camera shows up in My Computer but there are no Option settings. This is a new phenomenon for me. I have changed nothing on my system except to install vegas 7 dvda 4. If it opened vidcap it might be acceptable but I really would like to choose which applications start and when they start on my computer ;-).
This is like a file association or a CD autorun and I cannot for the life of me figure out what Vegas changed to cause this.
I get no pop ups. If I shut down vegas and I then dbl-click the icon in explorer it opens to a preview and I can watch what is showing on camera in a preview window but that is it! No other settings.
hmmmm. is right,, ok probably already done this but ,,,,try shutting vegas down turn cam off , turn cam back on and see if you have an icon on the task bar,, weird , mine does.
How to disable DV autoplay
Posted 5/14/2003 by TweakXP Member
A DV device is treated like any other removable storage in XP and you get an autoplay prompt when you plug in the camcorder.
When I bought my DV camcorder I installed some software that came with it. The software sucks, but before I came to that realization, I had already made it the default for DV autoplay.
The problem is that once you select an app to autoplay, there is NO WAY to change it unlike with other removables (where you can right click on it and change it in it's properties).
Trust me, I did a LOT of research online and could not find any way to do it.
Finally, after a careful search through the registry, I figured out how to disable DV autoplay entirely.
ALL the autoplay handlers are stored in this registry folder: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr
entVersion\Explorer\AutoplayHandlers\Handlers
I found the app that was being autoplayed when I plugged in my DV camera and deleted it's entry. Now NOTHING autoplays when I plug in my camcorder which is just the way I prefer it.
I'm sure there's a more elegant solution that allows you to reset the autoplay so that you can select another app, but this solves the problem for me.
OK I got it to stop! I had Digital Video device set to "Hide when inactive" in the Task bar so I never saw the "Perform same action when you connect..." dialogue. One I could see the icon in the taskbar I was able to right-click and get to the dialogue. I have set it to "Take no action" and all seems to be well.
It WAS set to start Vegas 7. Kinda rude don't you think? I am curious how Sony was able to make this the default action as it installed. Anyone know how this is done?
