Vegas 7 looks good with quad core Kentsfield

Anandtech got to run some time demos with the upcoming Intel quad core, "Kentsfield." This cpu is basically two core 2 duos slapped onto one substrate. It should be available in November and most current 965/975X mobos should be able to run it with a bios update.

Anyway, Vegas 7 seems to be working those 4 cores pretty hard from the Anandtech results here: http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/showdoc.aspx?i=2846&p=2

Seeing how fast the "normal" Core 2 Duo performs, these quad core chips must be a real treat to using with Vegas 7.

My own unofficial tests also show Vegas to finally be multithreading as it should in V7.

The problem with more cores is that performance doesn't scale up linearly (which the Anandtech results indicate). Doubling the cores doesn't double performance. This is a problem for any program and NLE. :(

It may be a moot point if Vegas starts moving towards GPU acceleration.

Perhaps you're not aware of the fact that no cpu scales linearly with with clockspeed unless FSB and memory also scale as well, which doesn't happen unless overclocking.

Did you also notice that the quad core cpu in the test was running 266MHz SLOWER than the dual core?

Although the scaling may not be linear the results are quite impressive in my opinion given the newness of the technology.

I haven't heard anything about Sony moving Vegas to GPU acceleration? Can you provide a link?

I don't think Vegas is moving towards GPU acceleration. But something like that might offer a magnitude increase in performance.

I just read the same article and I can wait to build one of these systems. Seems the quad is about 40% faster than the fastest core 2 duo offering with Vegas. That would be quite a step up from what I'm on now (amd 4800)
