Vegas 7 "phones home" 100%- what's up?

Hmm.. not only does the trial Vegas 7 require you to be online to active it, just the trial, but my Zone Alarm firewall detects that Vegas 7 tries to "phone home" and contact the internet EVERY time it's run! It'll still run after activation if it's not connected to the internet, but this seems excessive, like the infamous sony "rootkit" issue.

Anyone else see this? Vegas 7 trial tries to access the internet every time it's run.

I get the warning popup from Zone Alarm pro every time I run Vegas 7 trial. This is a privacy issue, I don't want my NLE "phoning home" whenever I run it - sheesh!

Zone Alarm tells me "Sony Vegas is trying to access the Internet" Destination IP: 66.77.63.174

Ken

p.s. can someone who's a techie test to see if Vegas7 trial installs a rootkit like sony's cds did? glad I installed this on my laptop only

It's always done that for as long as I can remember. You can turn it off; I think it's under the General property tab in the Preferences.

[edit]

I think it's "Use Net Notify to stay informed..."

thanks Jay.. good to know, eg if that's just an upgrade check, vs something else..

Sony isn't spying on you. All versions of Vegas in recent memory have "phoned home" but only to check for updates. Get into "Preferences" and turn off "Use Net Notify." Of course, you'll have to manually check for updates once you have disabled this feature.

by "manually" you mean "see the 50 posts on the forum about the updates within seconds of them being posted", right? :)
