Vegas 7 still will not install

I refer to a previous thread on this subject and have tried everything suggested without success.

The current status is:
During installation, a message briefly appears "could not open key
key_Local_Machine\Software\Sony\Media Software\Vegas. Verify you have sufficient access to that key or contact support personnel".
I do have access as Administrator of my computer.

When I open V7 it requires a serial number which I have correctly entered on numerous occasions but it just hangs as if the serial number is invalid.

When i try to open my existing Vegas 6 which has worked fine until now, it wants a serial number which is strange, but when entering that number it just hangs just as V7 does.

When I try to uninstal previous Vegas versions it will not allow me to do so, and displays the same message as above "could not open key Hkey_Local_Machine\Software\Sony\Media Software\Vegas. Verify you have sufficient access to that key or contact support personnel".

Please anybody help!!!

This sounds awful!

I have absolutely no idea what to suggest other than contacting Sony Support when they are back up and running.

Since either of your Vegas-versions are not working, you are quickly running out of options. What I'd do at this point (and did with Cinescore when it started to act on me) is to remove both Vegas versions completely, including all references to Vegas from registry.

Won't tell you how to clear the registry manually because if you do not know it by now, you should not try that option.

Then just try to install 6 from scratch and when you get it working try again with 7 and stay away from trial-version.

Also run chkdsk /f (from a command prompt) on your system drive, to make sure the file system isn't corrupted.
