Vegas 7 Super Slow-Help!

I purchased Vegas 7 last week and am using it for my first project. It is just a photo montage of about 80 pictures and 3 songs. The program takes a very long time to load and gets slower and slower as I use it. When I went to render the project, after 2 hours it was only 33% (basically locked up). When I then close the program my whole computer is INCREDIBLY slow until restart. Are there some settings or something I should turn off? What about media manager- should I disable that. I actually have a deadline for a wake with this project and I don't want to do it all over in Vegas 5 if I can help it. (I did try to open it in 5 but not surprisigly it could not.)

Lots of questions for you as there's no reason for it to be so slow.
What kind of computer (processor/RAM)?
Is the project on a hard drive that's separate from the OS drive?
Is your temp folder set to default (C:My Documents)?

If you have no need for Media Manager, disable it in prefs. You can always enable it later.
You're right about V5 not being able to open a V& project. You'd have to do it all over agin in V5 . With only 80 pictures and 3 songs though, this shouldn't take too long.
