Vegas 7 won't install

Laurence wrote on 9/11/2006, 11:52 PM
When I try to install Vegas 7, I get the following error message:

The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running Windows in safe mode, or if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance.

Is anyone else having this problem or know a solution?

I'm getting the same exact error with DVDA4.

Well, you could try downloading the installer again. If that doesn't work, you could try going into the 'Sony Setup' directory (where the executable you downloaded extracts itself). Locate vegas70_enu.msi and double-click it, or right-click it for options. It may be a problem with your machine, but that's the best advice I can offer you. I hope to see you running V7 soon! :)

Following the directions at this link fixed the problem:

Laurence:

I think you meant this Microsoft site. The one you referenced applies only to w2k.

I painfully stumbled across this fix just the other day, when suddenly my xp pro PC wouldn't let me install PSPX. Funny, things had worked well in the past. I wonder what happened to my system to make the aforementioned fix necessary.

Note: when I tried the "re-register" fix mentioned in the 315353 article, I got the ominous message "An event was unable to invoke any of the subscribers." Putting in a new System permission with Regedit as mentioned later on in that article was the magic bullet.

I believe I got the same error message as well when did the "re-register" fix, but when I rebooted and tried installing Vegas 7 again, it worked perfectly. Weird.
