No, Vegas 8 will be released at the end of this year.

Ok...
Interesting. Previously the Movie Studio versions were based on the Vegas. So they even share the same manual (with notes about the features which are only in the full version).

Looks like they are deviating from that... I guess Movie Studio Platinum 8 will be based on Vegas 7.0e?

Sony earlier announced that the next new major versions will support Vista, so that means that MSP gets Vista support in July, but Vegas not until end of the year.

Joran, where on earth are you getting that information? mbriant, most likely this statement has been made with absolutely no basis in the real world unless someone has broken their contract with sony that is working on the beta team (mmmm beta team)... what? oh, sorry, wandered off there for a minute. As I was saying, the Beta Team is under strict NDA not to even identify themselves from what I've read so unless there has been an announcement that I was unaware of, I would make sure to take Joran's statements with a grain of salt.

Dave, take at look at this press release:

http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/news/ShowRelease.asp?ReleaseID=660

I quote: ” Sony Creative Software plans to release a 64-bit version of Vegas software by the end of 2007.” I believe that this is Vegas 8. But of course, I’m not sure. It could be Vegas X Pro, or something like that.

Just take that press release at face value. There was no mention of what version it would be or what it would be called. People have just been assuming it's Vegas 8. There's been no info out of Sony one way or another.

Interesting. Sony said they would only support Vista on a whole number release and not on a point release. Anything new released this year would work on Vista. Vegas64 is both new and specified to work on Vista, hence it must be a whole number release. What's the next number in sequence?

Obviously it's 8, or 9 if the 64-bit version comes after a mid summer release, or 1 if they market it as a third tier product.

Or there could be 32 and 64-bit versions of Vegas 8. Lots of possiblities, no info.

They could be like some companies and release both a 32 and 64bit version at the same time. But with Sony Vegas, I've almost never been right about anything they plan on doing. :-)!!!
rmack350 wrote on 4/27/2007, 8:34 AM
lol! tell me about it! ;-)

I'm just assuming they aren't going to just drop the 32-bit version. That's suicide.

PLEASE update the credit roll generator and titler finally.

It is (to date) the longest standing unanswered request since Vegas was first introduced.

Thanks,

Well..........
they could always divide it into 2 product lines: Vegas and Vegas Pro(for the 64 bit version)
DrLumen wrote on 4/29/2007, 8:30 PM
Or, what we now know as Vegas becomes VMS and the full Vegas is for Fista64.

intel i-4790k / Asus Z97 Pro / 32GB Crucial RAM / Nvidia GTX 560Ti / 500GB Samsung SSD / 256 GB Samsung SSD / 2-WDC 4TB Black HDD's / 2-WDC 1TB HDD's / 2-HP 23" Monitors / Various MIDI gear, controllers and audio interfaces

Actually, having three tiers of product levels is classic marketing 101.
rmack350 wrote on 4/30/2007, 7:38 AM
If I ran the circus, here's how I'd plan those three tiers:

Tier1: Vegas Studio at an entry level price, but also make sure it has good features for low level edit functions like importing/exporting logs and pick lists, and video capture. Make it usable by an assistant, as well as being friendly for new users.

Teir2:Vegas as it is. 32-bit application that is competitive with PPro as it is today. Add 10-bit color, remove network rendering. Maybe remove other features that might be more appropriate for the top tier but keep in mind that all three tiers should have a potential place in a production's workflow.

Teir3: 64-bit program, 10-bit color, 4k resolution, compatible with Red camera, other cameras that Vegas doesn't currently support. Add server based media manager, move network rendering here, add batch renderer as a separate process running as a service with the possibility of it being run on a separate server. This version needs to be aimed multi-system facilities.

Try to make features in the top tier modular so that mid tier people can buy a feature if they want it.

Eventually the lower tiers go 64-bit if 64-bit windows becomes ubiquitous, but not before.

How about adding GPU rendering as well?

We'll have to wait to find out, won't we?

Tier 5:

Contains a useful Titler and Credit Roll generator. Estimated price: $1580

Hey. You get what you pay for if you want to be on the cutting edge.

Steve,

Sorry, but I have to respond to your comment about three tiers as marketing 101.

You're right, but in marketing 701, you learn that there are five rules for segmenting a product. If all five criteria are not met, you don't segment.

I never made it past second year when I switched majors.

I've never been able to tell if people with marketing jobs actually went to school. English majors? Phone Sanitizers?
