vegas 8.0b occasional temporary freeze of play fun

Hi;

Sometimes my vegas 8.0b behaves very "freaky". I can work for hours in the program and everything seems ok. Then all of a sudden, when i want to play my edits (press space tab, or the play button) i have to wait for about one minute, before the play actually starts. But the program does not hang up. I can "stop" and go on with editing without problems. But as soon as i try to play, i see the play ocon is "pressed" but the program does not play (freeze). When i wait patiently for about one minute, the movie starts playing. Trhen the problem is gone for some time. But it reapears later (i dont know what triggers the bahiour). In some rare cases, the play won't start at all. If that happens, only restarting the computer helps. restarting vegas does not. i am running windows xp-sp2.

Is there anybody else who has seen this problem ? And what could i do against it ?

thanks,
regards, hussayn

Something similar. It could be a hard disk on the way out. Try copying the file you're having trouble with to another drive. If the source drive is on the fritz you'll find much the same behavior when you try to copy the file.

no, it is not the hard drive. The problem occurs independently. But i analysed a little further. The problem occurs, when i do this:

1.) i take a shot from a virtual environment (Second Life) using fraps (screen grabber)
2.) I switch the window to vegas
3.) i do a refresh in the vegas filemanager to see my new takes.

Now the system freezes for 1-2 minutes. Then it continues without any problems.
It may well be a combination of Second life, fraps and sony vegas, which chokes.
The point is, that this behaviour does not occur as long as i do not create any new takes on the fly. So if i first make the footage, then do my edit everything is ok...

The problem could occur because the screen grab from fraps is very high resolution. Also depending on what kind of compression the still uses could also make a difference.
Having more programs also loaded into RAM wouldn't help either, impact of that would be affected by how much RAM you have.

I have had this happen with all versions of Vegas, but only when my media is on external USB drives (and sometimes Firewire). Is any of your media on an external drive??

1) Save your project
2) Restart the computer
3) Play the segment again

IME, it's a memory thing.
