Vegas 8 Audio Pop on Render

VaultComplex wrote on 7/11/2008, 7:00 PM
When rendering audio in Vegas 8 while using Waves L1, or Waves L2, or Sony's own Wavehammer, there is a consistent digital pop when there are multiple tracks about 1/4 a second after the beginning of each file. I tried dozens of variations in settings and the pop only goes away when I don't use one of those plugins. The problem doesn't exist in Vegas 7. After editing hours of music for a client (Pandemic's upcoming Lord of the Rings game for the curious), I'm unable to of course load any projects into Vegas 7 to temporarily alleviate the problem. Has anyone encountered this, and can anyone here duplicate the problem? This is rather annoying.

Hello- please contact SCS tech support, and be prepared to email them a project file that demonstrates this problem.

They may be able to help you, or engineering might need to get involved, but a repro .veg file will be very helpful.

I contacted tech support with the above problem. I also added that I can, in the meantime, copy/paste all my edits from vegas 8 into 7, but I have to manually insert the markers (would be great if I could copy those over!!!) which indicate my edit/file render points. It would also be helpful if I could save the .veg file as a previous version so, should bugs like this show up, I can still open the project in a previous version of Vegas where the problem does not exist.

you can save as aaf and reopen, you won't get everything but its not a bad way to project share. Can you do your render without effects, then apply in V7? Have you tried toggling the buffer settings?

Just wanted to make Sony aware that this issue is still present in the most recent Vegas update 8.0c.

Just some thoughts until its fixed:

is it all file formats? I had a problem like this but it was for MP3 renders. Can you render as wav with the process then encode in a separate app?

Have you tried track vs bus plugin locations?

I too have this issue as a support ticket.

I had something similar earlier this year. About the middle of 500ms. of silence at the beginning of a song I got a little snipped of sound from later in the song. In this case it was a nested veg file so it was fortunately easy to see in the upper level project.

Best I can recall it was related to delay compensation on the master bus and I removed either Ozone of Wavehammer. Sorry I can't be more specific but this was in a mad rush to get a master disk out to the duplicators before a concert the artist was doing.

Best suggestion is look for fx with large delay compensation in the Master bus or put a second or so of an empty event at the beginning and see it makes better or worse.

Bob (farss) directed me to this thread and my problem was I discovered that I had 2 instances of Wavehammer going on ein the master and one in a track. When I turned the one in the master off all was well.

it's a known bug. They do know about it, but there probably aren't anymore updates until Vegas 9, so... You need to render starting at least 1/4 second before your audio starts.

I just upgraded from 8.0a to 8.0c and now I'm getting a pop (click) while recording that is not heard in the source audio that was not there before. It doesn't seem predictable, and can happen every second to once every 30 seconds. Also, there appears to be a low level digital artifact in the audio as well.

I'm using a firepod 8 with the latest drivers.

I started having some weird problems with V8 in the middle of a project a few months ago (first big project I used it on), and decided to go back to V7 which seems more stable to me. I've become used to this process with Sony apps. Went back to SF 8 because 9 is so weird and buggy. Vegas 4 was always sluggish so I used V3 until V5 came out, etc, etc.

Unfortunately, I can't start my render 1/4 of a sec or whatever before the audio starts when making music loopable for video games. I've had to go back to Vegas 7 to do that kind of work until they fix this.
